Man devildog, I haven't heard of any of the bands on your list. Are they worth finding??

Here's something for you-there was a great mostly all-female band called Wednesday Week that has ties to the Pandoras, "Paisley Underground" and The Last.

I just found their website www.wednesdayweek.com and found out their still together!!

The album on Enigma-I guess it's available on CD -but I have it on Vinyl-called "What We Had" -they had a 12" ep that was fab called "Betsy's House."

anyway-the good news for me is that the band is assembling a rarities set-so I'll soon have new Wednesday Week to listen to!!

Yes, I have that Wednesday Week cd. Thanks for informing us about the upcoming rarities disc, pikeprof. Should be interesting to have!

Gee Dev-I somehow knew depite our brief row over the merits of porg rock-we would have more in common than different-I spent a good hour perusing the Wednesday Week web site and links-there's a whole tribe of people surrounding the whole wednesday week/pandoras/urinals/100 flowers/last axis that are all very much involved with music and running "boutique" labels off of the Internet and doing club gigs-

It almost reminds me of the whole "international pop underground" scene of the mid-80s-guess the more things change-the more they stay the same-eh?

Pretty Much, Pike. It's a sorry state of affairs that so many good artists are forced to do their own marketing these days. I really think the corporate music industry is terrible as ever. No wonder their sales keep slipping every year. You would think they would smell the coffee. Oh well, I can go on and on about the biz... [xx(]

BTW, I know we probably share more likes than dislikes. Even so, a little disagreement is always good. Since you like Wednesday Week, do you know the band, Devonsquare? Similar sound. Good folky stuff.

I don't know that group-but now I know to look for them-it may be good that some of these artists are doing their own marketing-they know who their fans are and what sort of people like their music-Kelly Callan of Wednesday Week is now a label head in addition to being a musician-so, I'm sure she has more control over what she does-also they can run it an economy of scale-they know how much product to put out and know they can hawk it online and at their gigs

And some of these people market each other's stuff-Sid Griffin (Long Ryders) sells some of Peter Case's stuff on his web site and I'm sure that others so the same and link to each other

Magazine-The Correct Use of Soap (Noted that a CD of Howard Devoto's "Jerky Versions of the Dream" is going for upwards of $147 on e-bay. Anybody noticing? How about a re-issue.)
