Not suprising that I'd concur a lot with a Costa Mesa dude:

Punk: X
Post-Punk: Joy Division
Gothic: Siouxsie
Synthpop: New Order (I cringe as I write this, knowing they're not really synthpop)
Powerpop: The Plimsouls
Mod: The Jam
2-Tone/Ska: The Untouchables (revival at least)
New Ro: Heaven 17 (are they?)
Rockabilly: eh...okay, The Blasters
Alt: The Smiths

Punk: The Clash
Post-punk: Joy Division (but also Wire´s running through my head)
Mopey brits (someone here invented that category on a previous thread): The Cure (ah, also feel tempted to add EATB)
Gothic: Siouxsie
Ska: Madness
New Ro: A Flock Of Seagulls
I´m not sure how the f- to classify them: The Police, Talk Talk (not completely synth pop for me), Tears for fears
Power-pop: Blondie
Synthpop: New Order
Alternative: The Smiths
Art-wave (yeah, I´ve invented that just as to save myself from thinking if they are post-punk or not [;)]): Talking heads, Devo

"To everything, turn, turn, turn.
There is a season, turn, turn, turn.
And a time to every purpose under heaven."
