your oddball musical thoughts...

Postby bpdp3 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 4:20 am

If you live/eat/breathe music like I suspect many of you do, you cannot help but have strange musical-based thoughts which constantly run through your head.

True for me, anyway.

My most recent examples:

Local radio station played "Friday" today by Joe Jackson today, which I havent heard in a long time. Suddenly it dawned on me that the Ben Folds Five almost got their whole shtick from Joe Jackson.

I've owned and listened to my Joy Division records since I was in my early teens. I've always thought of the album title "Closer" to mean a sense of closeness. Suddenly last night it dawned on me that it's the same as "that which closes"...ie their final studio album. Then I think my god, what if it was intentional? That thought has never occured to me before in over thirty years.

Whenever I go to a pub and use the urinal, there's the brand-name "Sloan" facing me - - and I think "I've read that Sloan is a good band, I need to listen to their music sometime". But then the next morning the thought is gone, only to be re-introduced on my next visit to a tavern (which admittedly is rarer lately). This has easily been going on since the mid-90's and I've yet to hear the band Sloan.

Please share yours.....

Just dawned on me the other day that "Move It On Over" by George Thorogood has the same vocal melody as "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley.

-I come in last night about half past ten
That baby of mine wouldn't let me in

-Put your glad rags on and join me hon',
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one.

All these years I never realized it.
