X-Radio Eyes

I cannot remember the name of the band who did this song but I loved it.
I don't know if it played in the rest of the country but it was a staple here in L.A. on KROQ. I think it was called X-Radio Eyes and was very similar to 96 tears except faster.

"I can see through walls

x-radio eyes."

Anyone got an mp3 of it? I have Funky Poodle by Wild Horses if you need or want it. And speaking of 96 Tears - does anyone remember the name of the artist in the 80's who covered this song. It was similar to the original except it featured a girl in the background counting up to 96.

Might not help but the punk band DC10s had a b-side called I can See Through Walls. Maybe? I haven't heard it.

No, the song was definitely called X-Radio Eyes and is worth a listen if you've never heard it. It was really big on KROQ about 1980.

DUUUUUDE!!! You just jarred loose a great memory. Are you sure it was "x-radio" rather than "x-ray". He sang the chorus in 3 syllables like "x ray-eee-ay eyes" followed by a drawn out eyes in "x ray iiiiii-eyes". I'm pretty sure you gotta be talking about 3D's "X-Ray Eyes" - the time, the place, the provenance, it's all there! Man, I thought I'd remembered every important KROQ song. I gotta get it too if someone has it!

And 96 Tears cover was by the Stranglers.

And I would love to get a cleaner copy of Funky Poodle!

BTW, along very similar lines, do you remember Humans' Get You Tonight? "Attention all you KMART shoppers, fill your carts..."?? I can fire that off too.

Dude, you are the MAN! BTW, what's your background or route to discovering all these obscurities, a lot of them local SoCal titles. Were you a DJ or just a manical collector?

OMG, I just got it. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude this is great!!! What is it about firing up lost memories that makes it so damned satisfying? Could it be that the music activates old neural links by triggering the appropriate presynaptic action potential that releases vesicles containting the neurotransmitter dopamine that hits its receptors and gives that rush of desire and pleasure?! You may be right about the title being just X-Ray Eyes because you definitely seem to know the song. I have a very strange memory for odd things and some songs stick with me but as you see some of the detail gets hazy. I was a fanatic listener of KROQ since back in the late 70's. April Whitney, Randall, Jed, Logic, Katie Manor, and Dusty Street were all constant companions as they doled out some of the best music I'd ever heard.

I know what you mean about jarring memories loose- it's what prompted me to start looking for these songs. A lot of what many people think of as New Wave actually came pretty late in the game, consequently some good songs from the early days were forgotten. At the time I never bought albums because I mistakenly thought this stuff would be around forever...what a mistake that was.

Anyway thanks for the help. It's fantastic to see that others out there feel the same way I do about this stuff.

P.S. I have the Stranglers version of 96 Tears but its not the one I was talking about. This one had a woman who would count from 1 to 96 through the length of the song. Don't remember how good it was but I did like it at the time.

Actually I came across this song while looking for songs by a U.K. outfit with the same name. Bit of a fluke really. Glad you enjoyed it.[:D]

Just dug out my vinyl copy of the 3D lp and played Radio Eyes (first song on side 2). Great song! Has a farfisa organ in it, that's probably why you're reminded of 96 tears. I love it when you guys do this....

On that 96 Tears part of your post, the 80s version you might be thinking of was done by Garland Jeffries. Iggy Pop and The Stranglers also recorded cover versions too.

We found it! It was X-Ray Eyes by 3D. As I said I have a weird memory for this stuff and some "facts" get altered.

As for the 96 Tears, I will look into that last suggestion. It's definitely not the Stranglers though.

Well I checked on 96 Tears and the version I'm thinking of wasn't done by Garland Jeffries or Suicide or Todd Rundgren.

This one's gonna drive me insane because I didn't much care before and now it's an obsession.
