Book Of Love Question

Postby Fred Taghon » Thu Sep 12, 2024 9:38 am

I've always wondered why the "You Make Me Feel So Good" 7" single and the 2001 "I Touch Roses" compilation claim that it's a "Single Remix". I don't detect any differences from the album version. Can anyone enlighten me?

Oh wow. I just went back and double checked to make sure, and it turns out it is a different mix. Very subtle differences, though.

Example: at 0:11–0:33 there is a sort of chimey keyboard melody. If you compare the two mixes side by side, level-matched, you can hear on the remix that this keyboard part often doubles up its notes, i.e. there is a 2nd "echo" note right after. The effect is far less pronounced on the album mix.

In the remix, the snares on the 2s and 4s have a slightly heavier, slightly longer gated reverb kind of echo on them. Again, it's subtle.

The harmonica-like keyboard part at 2:03 is less dense in the remix; I think a chorusing effect on it has been removed or mixed much quieter.

Well gee whiz, I consider myself pretty darn sharp-eared, but I guess I never listened quite as attentively to this track before lol. Thank you for sharing your observations!
