Recording from vinyl questions.

For the first time in almost 20 years my vinyl collection is all under one roof. I put most of it in alphabetical order. In the end I want to end of with standard CD's (not mp3 cd's) I'm ready to burn. Here's my questions.

1. What software do you use to record with? (I'm on a Mac but would like to know what you use if you are on Windows too.)
2. What software provides filters to reduce crackels & snaps and do they work without effecting dynamic range?
3. What software do you use to edit the files?
4. Do you record to mp3, AIFF or another format?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I don't want to do it twice.

btw - I'll be posting some of them to my website for sharing if you're interested.

2. I don't like the filters they use because the final recording sounds mechanic

Beatschool - I love stuff like that Squeezebox. Thanks for the heads-up.
I have a Powerbook and an IPod so I don't really need it but I'd love to put all the files on my old Pentium 200 PC and dedicate it to streaming m

Sound Forge does work fine... You can use their click and crackle remover plugin too...

Hi Ekahob -

I have an iPod too, but I got myself a nice expensive Marantz stereo set-up last year and like the fact that the Squeezebox has digital outs. The sound quality is awesome. Plus, I only have a 5 GB iPod and have to change songs regularly
