I'm not a techie, so this may be a silly question.
I'm trying to make a mix CD with songs that are in various formats, but with no success. I have the following types of files on my computer:
1. mp3 files that I downloaded from various places on the web
2. MPGA files, also from the web
3. songs that I copied from my CDs (Windows Media Player files), and
4. songs that I downloaded from itunes.
I can't get them all to burn on the same disc. I understand that the itunes format is proprietary, so those songs aren't compatible with anything else. The mp3 and MPGA downloads I can burn with Nero, the mp3 downloads alone will burn on Real Player, and my CD copied songs will burn on Windows Media Player. But I can't get all of the songs to burn on one program, so I can't put them all on one disc. I've tried to convert their formats, with no success. Help! Does anybody have any suggestions?

Using WindowsXP? Try copying all the songs to a folder, place a brand new CD into your drive, open windows explorer, drag the folder (or just the songs) onto the your CD drive folder, this should open a wizard which will step you through the burning proce

Elation turned to disappointment...
I tried your suggestion and it worked! All four formats burned successfully to a disc. I was doing the happy dance--literally. I was about to hail you King Swampthing.
Then.....
I read your edited post and ru

What you have is a mishmash of different compressed file formats. I'm not surprised that your CD writing software is having trouble. While CD writing software will often convert some formats "on the fly" (mp3 to CD Audio for instance), I doubt any will

Thanks, fritzb. I will try this over the weekend. Wish me luck. If it works, you can wear the crown.

I think Fritz answered most of your questions manekineko. The only sticklers will be the iTunes purchased songs that are in protected AAC format. Those can only burn from iTunes. However, since iTunes can handle MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV, and Apple Lossless, yo

Thanks, myirwin, for your input. Wow. Everything has to be so freakin' complicated! With your and fritz' suggestions, hopefully I'll get this problem solved.

One last alternative, (only if you are planning on doing this on a semi regular basis) is to obtain some audio editing software. Most can open a variety of formats and save in at least as many. I'm not sure about the iTunes though. However, if you can pla

Eight6, I don't think that that is "an exact digital duplicate". You're still "recording", not "copying". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're playing something it's essentially undergoing a D/A conversion. Even if you're routing the sound inter

Fritz--
many moons ago you told me to download CDex so that I could format your NTT songs (which are mpga) to my burner (Nero) , which I did. However, I still don't know what to do with it now that I have it.

Wait manekineko, I think a couple of things are amiss here. You should NEVER feel you have to transcode MP3s and WMAs to AAC! You're degrading your audio quality considerably. Keep them in their native formats. iTunes can handle it.
As far as burn lim

Oops, my bad on some of this. I was thinking WAV not WMA. It will indeed convert WMA upon import into the format and resolution that you selected in your Preferences. You probably still have the default ACC encoder chosen. For me it's MP3/192kbps unless I
