Record speed

I found this private comment on Discogs about a CD reissue of a vinyl album with a faster speed--

".. in the early 1980s it was with some artists, labels or genres, common to modify the speed of the tape for sound or commercial purposes".

Was it really so common? I remember some tracks playing from vinyl with a slightly different speed, but I always thought it was due to the age and technical condition of the turntable, not the producer trick.

Did you experience that on any scale??? Examples??

I have heard of speed increases on reissues before... not sure how common it is. Found this thread. Interesting that someone mentioned that not all the tracks were sped up the same amount, that could be problematic if you had to adjust each song. I am not an audiophile so I am just spit-balling here.
