Couple of tunes for anyone who wants them

Postby mostly absent » Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:10 am

Am so chuffed with the stuff I've had from people here that I thought I'd chuck a couple of songs up for shareage. I haven't got much in the way of rarities in digital format, so here's a couple of cheesy old classic new wave tracks, in the hope that maybe some of you haven't heard them:

Wow, I really like the song by The Photos. Not too much on the web about them (googling "The Photos" brings up a lot of generic hits) -- anybody have any more mp3's from this band?

There was only one used cd on Amazon going for "1 Used & New from £79.95"

Customer Reviews

missing tracks, January 4, 2002
Reviewer: Frederick Goldston "gehennan_scientist" (Co. Springs, Co. United States?
I may be rehashing what's beens said about the missing tracks from the original vynil release but...The song "SHY" is also missing, which was the second track. These omission lessens the emotion impact and makes this just another mediocre compliation album...better than nothing but still, have they no shame?

What Happened?, August 14, 2000
Reviewer: John D. Pride (Atlanta, GA USA)?
The Photos released their debut eighties LP with one great, I mean REALLY great song, the kind of song that still sends chills up and down one's spine. That song, "I'm So Attractive", is, sadly, not on this CD, and neither is the original's other great song, "Shy". So what's left? Well, some OK stuff, most notably the reggae-tinged "She's Artistic", and a hummable mersey beat "Maxine". However, without the afore mentioned classic tunes to set the mood, you'd be much better off searching the out-of-print sites and auctions for the Photos' debut LP.

A forgotten UK punk classic!, August 3, 2000
Reviewer: L Salisbury (Maryland United States)
Despite commercial potential (both American & British) this memorible and talented UK act didn't make it big on either side of the Atlantic. Too bad. The Photos, who were "Britian's answer to Blondie" (a promo the band HATED), were more comprible to the Buzzcocks with a female singer (Wendy Wu). There are no wasted tracks on their album. Best moments: "all I want", "look at the band", "do you have fun", "Barbraella's" (about a club), "Irine", both versions of "Evelyn", "last time", "who stole my skateboard" and a cover of "do you wanna dance" that rivals the Ramones' version. If you like this you may want to sniff out these 45s: "year of the rat", "Louise", "guitar hero", "cridsilla", "ja'tame" and "we'll win". These aren't on the CD but should have been.

Don't stop at the complilation album!, August 3, 2000
Reviewer: A music fan (London)
I came here hoping to find their debut album that features Wendy Wu's classic "I'm so attractive" which is the only thing missing off this otherwise hard hitting early eighties indie girl band's album. This band was a college classic in the early eighties and truly deserve their cult following. Now if we can only get them to re-release "I'm so attractive"!

The Photos song is a nice discovery, thanks very much! I've tried a comprehensive search on the internet for the CD reissue but that is some rare disc. Even GEMM didn't list the CD at all, just vinyl. Only one site had it listed in stock, but they were asking $138 for it. which is a bit beyond my budget. I remember buying the album about twenty years ago but didn't think much of it at the time.

Yay, glad you all liked the Photos. I saw the price of the CD too, and wished I had it! I do have the album on vinyl plus The Blackmail Tapes cuts, in fairly good nick, so will get round to ripping/sharing at some point. 'Loss of Contact' and 'Irene' are probably the stand-out tracks, though. The single 'She's So Attractive' is pretty good too, but my copy's way too battered for rippage - worth a listen if you can track it down.
