I'm not sure where to put this question so I'm putting it here.
I have a Mac and I need a program to extract audio from a Windows Media File.
Freeware preferable but any suggestions are welcome. I need to extract audio from a live show for my Spoons website. WMV is not easy to find programs for.

I'm also on a Mac and I use Audio Hijack Pro for any audio extraction or capture be it from DVD, streaming video, streaming radio, or movie file. I think the freeware version allows you to "hijack" at least five minutes or so before quitting which should be sufficient for most songs. You can record straight to MP3, AIFF, AAC or the Apple Lossless format. $32 buys you the full version and excellent customer support. Well worth it. Not one bug and rock solid performance. I bought a couple apps from them and am totally happy.

I'd actually suggest EasyWMA instead for two reasons:

1. EasyWMA will extract the original audio rather than re-record it, which is tedious and also possibly downsampling to mono then back up to stereo.

2. EasyWMA works great for a wide variety of other files. It's still transcoding, but when you don't have any other choice, it's a pretty sweet one, especially when you stumble upon some audiophile's huge blog off Ogg Vorbis files. You can queue a whole bunch of different files too from a variety of formats. From their web site http://www.easywma.com/ :

• Input formats: asf, ogg vorbis, wav, wma, wmv
• Output formats: aiff, m4a, mp3, wav
