I emailed Rene the following message (on 10/19/04) -- haven't heard back yet.

"Hi René,

Well I love the song "Stay ... The Second Time Around" since hearing it on your web site and appreciate the higher quality mp3 sample (1:27 in length) (http://www.dedinidevil.de/Stay_longer.ddd).
http://people.freenet.de/DeDiniDevil/wanted.htm

And there has been a lot of discussion on the NW outpost about the song:
http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=324

I'm wondering if we can pay for a complete mp3 of the song Stay (The Second Time Around) and just keep waiting to eventually find out the name of the group that recorded it?

Personally I'd be willing to pay $10 for a complete mp3 of the song at 160 or 192. You could hold the money in an account for the band if it is ever discovered."

Anybody else want in on this deal?

To answer Mike's question, it's definitely not Please Don't Stay by Canton. I have all their songs but I haven't listened to Stay With Me thath carefully. Let me listen to it over the weekend and I'll let you know.

Dan, I too would certainly help contribute towards a higher or at least complete MP3 of the song. Keep us informed if you make any headway.

This is such an interesting song to me now. The fact that it sounds like a song which we should all know but none of us knows it is so cool. We've got all the New Wave Gurus hunting up and down the internet for this. I think whomever can come up with the ID should be crown the King of New Wave for a week. :) What an awesome song!

Rene emailed me today:

Hi Dan,

Sorry but I can't help you. I put the song on the site just the way I have it on an old tape. I recorded the song a little bit late so it's not complete. And the sound quality didn't depend on the mp3 but on the quality of my old tape.

Ciao RenŽ

Well, I guess we really do need someone to recognize the song.

To me, every time I listen to this It sounds like the band Icehouse.

Ive become obsessed with the short clip of this song (apparently Im not alone)since seeing it here. Last night I was looking through some of my old vinyl because I, as well, decided this song had to be Icehouse. I may quit my job and devote my life to finding this song.

Update:

The more I listen to it, the less it sounds like the singer from Icehouse. It does sound like a band Ive defintiely heard though, I just cant pinpoint it.

BTW there was a band called Cheating Ace that had a song called Second Time Around in 1985, but I doubt its them from the description of the band.

I am surprised that this one still hasn't been solved. For the length of time it's been posted on various sites, you'd think somebody would have an answer by now.

Well, I cannot download the song to hear it but I know in 84 or 85 there was a song called, "Stay" by Andre Cymone. He use to play with Prince or The Time.
