Does it still have the 10 second "vinyl crackle" intro?

Man, I can't stand that vinyl crackle. I was hoping they would have removed it on this. Darn it.

There is actually a write up in the liner notes about the vinyl crackle where people brought their cds back and thought it was an error.
Speaking of vinyl, these 12" mixes sound like they are from vinyl, especially heard on Acid Commandment, guess they couldn't locate these masters.

Why don't you just cut it off with an audio software? I often cut out/edit parts from songs that I don't like. Depending on the changes it may take some time but it's definitely worth it.

Ugh I was afraid of that. I actually owned what I believe was a US 12" test pressing of the Justin Strauss remixes for "The Great Commandment" - I remember the label text was all hand-written. I did my own vinyl-to-digital transfer of the mixes, but the sound quality was so sub-par I rarely bother to listen to them. So this new CD could be from a vinyl source as you say, or maybe the original master tape just sounds awful to begin with? My best guess (without actually hearing it) is that it's likely from vinyl.

Curious how the "That Smiling Face" mixes sound?? Having owned the USA promo CD-Single, I was shocked to compare the promo CD and the "Archive" cd collection from a few years ago and hear how awful the "Archive" version sounded. I assume THAT was from vinyl which is strange. Invest in your project and buy the darn CD for $100-$200 off eBay! Or ask fans who might own a copy if they can supply a rip of it - there is software to determine the authenticity. Seems a smarter choice for a more respected and sought after release than just tossing on a half-assed vinyl transfer. So anyway, after all that, what say you - those who purchased this release...are they from vinyl?

I know it's offtopic, but does anybody still remember the awfully compressed Shep Pettibone Remix for the single version of "You Came" by Kim Wilde which was released on the deluxe version of her "Close" album? Fred, you are so right, why not ask fans for a digital copy rather than restoring vinyl transfers. Or in the case of Kim Wilde to take a 96kBit/s version.

Because I want to listen to my original silver cd without having to hear that annoying crackle and laugh at the beginning of the song. It's not hard to remove that beginning with audio software but I would have to edit and burn on to a cd-r to listen to it. The original vinyl album did not have this. They could have used the master from that. This is still a super cool release but that was one thing they could have taken out.

My choice for CD 1 would have been the original vinyl LP (the "vinyl scratch intro" was maybe funny (??) in 1988 but certainly not now) and ALL B-sides.
The two "CD bonus tracks" "They Catch Secrets" and "Pompeji" were added to the CD in 1988 to add some bonus value to the CD, and were chosen simply because only two singles had been released by then. They were never part of the original album concept. Now, in 2018, they could have added ALL B-sides (Pompeji / They Catch Secrets / Zwischenspiel / Every Now and Then) to make room for more tracks on CD 2.

I am curious, for anyone who bought the vinyl 30th anniversary, does that have the crackle in the beginning?

Finally listened to this, great quality, and although the track
selection is spotty, and missing versions.

Overall, its worth it.
