Glad you mentioned Interpol. They are currently my favorite band and I will be seeing them in concert next month. Can't wait.

I listened to KYYX and KJET back in the 80's also while living in Seattle. I obtained KJET play lists recently

swamp thing,

great to hear about another old KYYX & KJET fan ! occasionally, on the 'net, you can actually find an old KYYX playlist (just type in "KYYX" or "KJET" and see what comes up); also, do you remember how KYYX had a magazine for a short while

No one likes The Epoxies? I'm about as jaded as they come when it comes to new bands, especially when they are trying to emulate a past genre. The Epoxies are the only band that gets it right without being a complete retro cover band. Think of the bast

Also, why does everyone say that The Briefs are New Wave? Just because they wear striped shirts, skinny ties and funny sunglasses? they're about as New Wave as any other pop-punk band.

Maybe I've gone into another genre, but I tend to think that a lot of the "synthpop/industrial" bands give me the same sort of audio fix that early new wave did. Bands like Apoptygma Bezerk, Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Seabound, Project Pitchfork, Funker V

jfiber,
you're right,
apop, assemblage 23, funker, etc., are not only well-crafted and eminently danceable music, they do have that early-80's synth sound ! they all sound a bit darker ( people generally categorize them as "darkwave" or EBM ), but

I love The Strokes! I have always loved the raunchy New York City sound whether it was Velvet Underground or The Rascals, Television etc. I loved Radioheads Kid A. I mainly just delve into the past these days however. I still discover Wave bands from bac

Well, the Strokes spin a grand illusion. I can relate to the "idea" of the dirty desperate NYC sound being exciting, The velvets came from
shock therapy, amphetamine abuse, subway busking, and urban squalor. The Strokes on the other hand are lead by the

I have actually not found anything "new" that thrilling - the magic has just gone and I've gotten OLD. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of older bands/vocalists who were a bit before my time but were indeed influential and brilliant:
