Madonna sound-a-likes

Postby bpdp3 » Thu May 16, 2019 7:34 pm

The challenge is to make a mixtape of records from the 80s that had madonna’s sound, or were obviously inspired by her.

So far I’ve got:
Alisha ‘baby talk’
Regina ‘baby love’
Debbie Gibson ‘shake your love’
Stacy q ‘two of hearts’

Need your help

Ah, I should’ve been more specific. I’m talking releases from the era of say 84-86, ones that came clearly in Madonnas initial wake.

Why do I care? Regardless of your love or hatred for Madonna, that era has a effervescent ditzy feel that I enjoy. Fun singles that weren’t THAT far removed from the synth pop more commonly discussed here. It predates and segues nicely into the freestyle 12” single era. But I’m talking the mid-80s dance club tracks which Madonnas early releases inspired.

Lots of good replies.... seriously, thanks. All were good fits!

The video for Boy Toy is ridiculous (thus wonderful). If you struggle with 80s cheese, be forewarned it’s pretty egregious!

Couple of other Jellybean associated works that may fill the bill: Ana - Shy Boys, Sheena Easton - If It's Meant to Last, Debbie Harry - I Feel The Spin and lastly Donna Summer - I'm Free, which sounds like a poor mans La Isla Bonita..

Oh and why don't you have Jellybean - Sidewalk Talk.. even features Madonna in the background.

Really? I don't see it. They're pretty different performers.
