Top 100 New Wave Songs

Postby FreeWave » Sat Apr 23, 2005 12:38 am

Post your top 100 New Wave (up to 1989) Songs; numbered.

First 10 get 5 points
Next 20 get 4 points
Next 20 get 3 points
Last 50 get 1 point [:I], nope make that TWO points.

If you want to post 100 (or less) and keep them completely out of order then I'll simply give you 3 points each. You can post less then 100 if you choose... You can edit your list if you change your mind.

I'll total them up as long as enough people participate. I'll wait at least a few weeks (or more if necessary) before totalling them up so we can get enough input.

Any takers?

Any takers?? I'm giddy all over like Jo-Jo the idiot the circus boy with his pretty new pet!

I say no cutoff. If it's near-n-dear, why wouldn't it qualify?

Ok lets go with no cut-off. That's a whole other argument and I'd rather have people get down to business. Late 70's are ok UP TO -89. 1990 and on are off limits. That's the only rule. [^]

For me, it's intimately tied into the early 80s and the end of a pure and true and innocent non-mainstream era of new wave. It oozes and breathes new wave in every way to me. I'd be shocked if some others didn't feel the same way.

Are we choosing our 100 personal favorites OR songs that we think are the greatest/most influential?

Same here. I could add more rare bands, but that would make a list almost unreadable (well, not to you peeps, but to anyone else who happens to read it). Adding too many top 40 songs would also suck, so mixing it up is the best.

I know I've forgotton something & it makes me feel like I left my dog outside all day! I had to think of what I could listen to two, three or four times in a row. I didn't take into account what was influential or essential, just a bunch of songs I like, cool or not, what has good memories attached, great dance songs, etc. I'm a sucker for a great pop song & a great single, and I'm not embarrassed that there's a Toni Basil song in my top ten! So, here goes...

1. Devo - Gates of Steel
2. Lou Reed - Sweet Jane
3. Blondie - Pretty Baby
4. Cheap Trick - I Want You to Want Me
5. Carolyne Mas - Sadie Says
