2004 Top Ten Lists

Postby Surly » Mon Nov 22, 2004 5:06 am

It's that time of year again...time to reflect on the best releases of the year. I know a lot of you think that today's music is crap, but there really is good stuff out there...sometimes you just have to dig for it a little.

Top 10 Albums of 2004

1. Interpol - Antics - NYC's finest discover melody, improve their lyrics and deliver the one album this year that I simply cannot stop listening to.

2. Keane - Hopes And Fears - Some of the most beautifully melodic, piano-driven music I have ever heard, with a vocalist who wrenches emotion out of each note. Killer live band.

3. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand - Scottish band stirs up the ghost of Gang Of Four and find a gold album in the process. Another killer live act.

4. U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - First single "Vertigo" is a killer, and the hits just keep on coming. Their most solid album since Achtung Baby.

5. Air - Talkie Walkie - French duo create a dreamy album full of wonderful songs that set the perfect mood.

6. The Futureheads - The Futureheads - Young UK group that echoes the punk sound of early Jam records. Includes a great cover of "Hounds Of Love" by Kate Bush.

7. The Black Keys - Rubber Factory - Akron band fuses blues with rock and create a brilliant album.

8. Duran Duran - Astronaut - The Five are back and all is well. This record deftly mixes their love of Roxy Music and Chic. Can't wait for the live show!

9. Lowgold - Welcome To Winners - Another Britpop band that creates wonderful songs in the Travis/Coldplay vein.

10. Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Like Bad News - One of those bands that I'd read a lot about but never paid much attention to. I bought the disc after hearing the single and was pleasantly surprised.

Dan, the Seinfeld DVDs are fantastic. My local Walmart started selling them right at midnight, so I was RIGHT THERE to scoop them up as soon as I could. The quality is amazing and the extra features are overwhelmingly extensive. You will enjoy them.
