Share: Naked Eyes 7" Edits

Postby Fred Taghon » Fri Aug 31, 2018 12:04 pm

In response to another thread here regarding Naked Eyes material, I've decided to share my own re-creations of the USA 7" versions for "Promises, Promises" and "(What) In The Name Of Love" in FLAC:

https://www.sendspace.com/file/623vqw

"Promises, Promises (U.S. 7" Remix)" 4:02
"(What) In The Name Of Love (7" Edit)" 3:54

It seems the USA 7" version of "Promises, Promises" is often featured on CD's (INCLUDING the recent "Burning Bridges" remaster) at a faster speed than it should be and with a slightly earlier fade than my own personal copy of the U.S. 7" single. The U.S. 7" is essentially just an edit of the 12" Extended Version with a one second bass guitar intro. So I used the gorgeously remastered 12" Extended Version from the "Burning Bridges" CD and the one second intro from one of the "Living In Oblivion" compilation CD's (which IS at the correct speed, but fades out too soon) and re-created the later fade-out to match the original U.S. 7" single.

The 7" version of "(What) In The Name Of Love" is just a simple edit of the album version. I used the "Fuel For The Fire" remastered CD to re-create this version, which I have never seen on any other commercially released CD.

I've included my own scans of the cover art from each 7" single. Enjoy!

Just realized I saved the FLAC files to wrong location so I actually uploaded the AIFF files. This should be easily converted to WAV for anyone who isn't a Mac user though.

While I'm at, I decided to share my vinyl transfer of the "(What) In The Name Of Love (Instrumental Version)" 5:59 from the U.S. 12" single (also in AIFF to be consistent):

It's a great "dub" mix - shame it wasn't included on the "Fuel For The Fire" remaster!

Thanks Fred. I do have the 3:50 in the name of love but it appears to be an mp3 vinyl rip so your versions are most welcome.

Thanks again.

I always enjoy your edits Fred. Thanks for sharing. Do you know if the Always Something There single version with the drums at the beginning has ever been released on cd?

That version is pretty much the only version I've ever heard on most CD releases here in the USA maccafan076 (assuming we're talking about the same mix?).

Fred, I have a question. The original UK 12" of "Always" by Tony Mansfield has a time of 6:14.
The version released on 'Everything' runs only 5:45. I can't find it, but has the full Mansfield 12" mix been released on CD?
Also, would you happen to have the UK single edit and instrumental of "Promises Promises", please? Thanks!

I've only ever found the UK 12" mix of "Always Something There To Remind Me" on one CD. I bought this CD-Single: https://www.discogs.com/Naked-Eyes-Joce ... se/2710622 years ago but was disappointed to find that it SEEMS to be from a vinyl source - I could be wrong, but it's just not a really clean sounding transfer, regardless of the source. I categorize it in my collection as "Vinyl". Wonder why it's never appeared on any CD release since, especially with all the Naked Eyes releases over the past several years.

Anyway, here is the UK 12" mix from that CD-Single:

"Always Something There To Remind Me (Tony Mansfield 12" Mix)" 6:09 AIFF

Here is my vinyl transfer of "Promises, Promises (Instrumental)" from the Canadian 12" https://www.discogs.com/Naked-Eyes-Prom ... ase/230483

I am not aware of an edit of the UK version of the song, just the original album version. Not that an edit doesn't exist, I just don't have one and have never run across one.

Thanks very much, Fred.

I'm pretty positive that Unidisc used vinyl sources for some of their early to mid 90's CD's, so that doesn't surprise me. I went digging through tons of 80's 12" compilations (looking at you, Blank & Jones) and I'm also pretty surprised the full "Always" 12" hasn't been included on any of them, or on either of their hits collections.

In my digging I found that the "Voices In My Head" 7" version (from the music video on YouTube) is almost 20 seconds shorter than the LP version, so like you, I just created my own digitally reproduced fade on the track.

The sleeve of the original UK 7 inch release of "Promises" states it's an edit, but no times are on the label. The singles from Spain and New Zealand run about 3:59, which is almost :30 shorter than the LP version. Not having that single, I'm going to assume the original UK 7 inch is an edit of the LP version, though no one has a vinyl rip available on YouTube to compare. If anyone does, would they please post? Thanks.

There are a few YouTube videos of the 12" of "Always" and comparing them to Fred's upload, the Unidisc CD version fades a little earlier and does not have the loud thunderclap at the very end.
I also found a Unidisc CD compilation of dance mixes that has this, but the time is the same as that on your CD single, so it's not complete.

The Mansfield mix on 'Everything And More' was released in the UK as the American Remix, but it had the same catalog number as the first UK 12".

I've got a friend in the UK sending me over the UK 7", and if it's different to what's available on CD I'll upload it.
Fred, would you please kindly upload the other side of that Canadian 12"?
I didn't realize but that mix seems to be unique to the USA and Canada.
There's a YouTube video of it, but pretty poor quality.

Can't believe I found all five volumes of that Hardest Hits series on torrent - in 320kbps no less!
