Lunch with the First Lady

Postby MARV » Wed Mar 16, 2005 2:10 am

Every year, the First Lady chooses one artist from every state to paint an Easter egg for display at the White House. Well this year, Laura Bush chose my sister-in-law for the New York egg. Every artist gets to bring three people with them to go to Washington for the inaugural luncheon. So that's how I'm going! A truly unforgettable honor, I leave tomorrow to visit this great nation's capital for the first time.

Has anybody been to Washington before? Any tips on restaurants, sites, toursit trap warnings, anything?

NOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAY! You are going to Washington? Even if you don't like Bush, it is an Honor to meet the Pres. Do you think you will see him? I'm so jealous![}:)]

I'm hoping I'll see the prez, philly! And I agree: no matter what your politics, it's a great thing to not only visit the capital but to just be in the same room as the First Lady if not The Prez. I'm very lucky. The whole thing was an unexpected surprise

Yes, I've been to DC. When I was getting processed to go into the Peace Corps in '92. I remember it being an incredibly vibrant town with all kinds of happening vibes, with a ton of restarants. We were able to hit some ethnic restaraunts around K street N

Well people, I'm back! My trip to D.C. was great and I look forward to going back one day.

The Easter Egg display was at the White House Visitor's Center across the street from the White House itself. The First Lady came in with a bunch of security hoo
