Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey - Science Fiction pre-order!

Surprised not to see this mentioned here yet, but Tom Bailey’s first solo album is up for pre-order on PledgeMusic and it’s already at 90%! I can’t remember a release I’ve been so excited for!

I saw this a long time ago, and I
Love tom bailey's music, but pledgemusic means automatically i will never support it, until it is an actual cd.

I lost interest in Tom Bailey by 1985. The Thompson Twins were pretty good before that.I'll sit this one out.

Thing that annoyed me was that TB kind of disowned his work for many years and now all of a sudden wants people to be interested.

a lot of groups do that. he's not the only one. don't forget he went on to do 'babble' and other projects.

I liked the Babble stuff it was atmospheric and dubby but still Tom's great vocals and flare for melody. I imagine at that point the pop thing had grown somewhat overly familiar and as an artist he had felt he had been there and done that. So I don't blame him for experimenting at all. And I think it's nice that he rediscovered some joy in pop music because he certainly has an ear for it and the production chops and musicianship to present it in a unique way. Looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

I'm just playing the first track he's released from it 'Feels Like Love To Me'. It's pretty catchy and could easily have been a later period Thompson Twins song back in the day with only the backing vocals sounding different. Not a lot has changed (but that's not a complaint from me) and it's just great to have Tom back writing pop songs.

It is sad that his song "come so far" is basically the same song as this 1968 # 1 hit by Paul Mauriat:

He's clearly referencing Love is Blue, with lines like "I remember you in shades of blue".
