Posted - 11/28/2009 : 03:21:37 Here are some songs for you, my good friends on the New Wave Outpost Message Board. Hopefully you'll find at least one selection from this vast variety of new wave/ punk music that you'll like enough to keep....
FAVOURITE SISTER - Marc Riley Original member of The Fall until he was fired by Mark E. Smith in the early '80s,, Marc formed the Creepers and currently is a BBC DJ. This single reminds me of something Robyn Hitchcock might have done, and it happens to be a personal "favourite" of mine. http://www.4shared.com/file/161263844/1ea91d80/Favourite_Sister-Marc_Riley.html
COUNTDOWN TO BILKO - Serious Drinking Pub/ska/punk song about waiting for what was apparantly the highlight of late Sundays nights for this U.K. band...watching reruns of the American TV program "The Sgt. Bilko (Phil Silvers) Show". http://www.4shared.com/file/161276846/fa19a52e/Countdown_to_Bilko-Serious_Dri.html
DROP DEAD/ CELEBRATION - Siouxsie & the Banshees Who knew Siouxsie had a dark side? :) This was the flipside of "Happy House". Althoguh not one of their better known songs (it never appeared on any album), 'Drop Dead' is one of the great F.U. b-sides from the punk era. http://www.4shared.com/file/161285107/7646530c/Drop_Dead-Siouxsie_and_the_Ban.html
THE LAW - Voice Farm This comes from a free promotional cassette given out by Boston's 'Propeller Products' label at the IBS college radio convention in 1982. It's fast and poppy, but artsy ... a hundred-mile-an-hour mini-masterpiece, although the sound quality of the cassette proves that "Dolby Noise Reduction" did indeed suck. http://www.4shared.com/file/161261943/2b062a9f/The_Law-Voice_Farm.html
ONE WAY LOVE - The Undertones This was the b-side of "Here Comes The Summer". Should've been the 'A' side. Actually sounds a little like The Monkees. A sad song that will make you happy. http://www.4shared.com/file/161263226/ab6a5efc/One_Way_Love-The_Undertones.html
HOW MANY TIMES - Plan 9 Great garage rock from Rhode Island. From 1981 (and they're still together). http://www.4shared.com/file/161264191/496b9474/How_Many_Times-Plan_9.html
DISCIPLINE - God's Gift From the New Hormones label (original home of The Buzzcocks) came this group of musicians who all worked at the same mental hospital in the U.K. Catchy and hypnotic...noise that doesn't annoy. http://www.4shared.com/file/161255608/1b269ca9/Discipline-Gods_Gift.html
ONE OF THE LADS (Vocal) - 4 Be 2 This is the original single version by the band started by John Lydon (aka Rotten)'s brother...little Jimmy Lydon. Excellent bassline courtesy of Youth from Killing Joke. Not sure who played banjo, but it sounds great (I also have the extended instrumental dub version if anyone's interested). http://www.4shared.com/file/161263336/b3b3058a/One_Of_The_Lads__Vocal_-4_Be_2.html
I'VE HAD ENOUGH - Conflict Best track from the debut 4-song E.P. by Conflict. Love Pauline's vocals...unfortunately she left the band shortly after they recorded this. http://www.4shared.com/file/161263601/310101/Ive_Had_Enough-Conflict.html
BACK TO BATAAN - The Maids Late '70s punk rock about a Japanese soldier who lived in the Phillipine jungles for 29 years after WWII because he did not know the war had ended. This single was the San Francisco band's only recording, and it's a classic. http://www.4shared.com/file/161319552/f0c8f576/Back_To_Bataan-The_Maids.html
