Combo Audio was one of the few American new wave bands with a new romantic sound (like Our Daughters Wedding or Berlin). They were from Illinois I believe and only released a single and an EP.
As for Private Lives, my friends have recorded their album to CD-R (see the Obscure80's/MFV page), and I'll ask one of them to post more info if they have it. I know nothing about them.
I know very little about Private Lives, but here goes: A duo featuring vocalist/songwriter John Adams (not the classical composer). Oddly enough, there were a few singles a year or so before their sole album and his musical partner changed (the singles had one guy, the album had a different guy). John put out a solo album a few years after Private Lives broke up.
