Ok, I'm showing my age again, but does anybody remember the Tom Snyder talk show? It was on NBC after the Tonight Show during the Carson years (yes, before Letterman). Maybe the original late, late talk show? Often parodied by SNL in tha day.
I seem to remember he had some pretty cools bands on... the Clash, Adam & the Ants, U2??? I think they usually played a song live in the studio and then sat down to speak with him. Can anyone recall bands that appeared, or memorable moments? Or am I making the whole thing up?

No, Dave, you're not making it up. I remember the show as well. I remember when Johnny Rotten was on the show; I don't remember his particular antics but Snyder couldn't control him in the least. I also remember Elvis Costello on the show; the only thing I recall from that interview was Snyder saying something to Elvis and then ending it with "we have a hard enough time keeping our own jobs" to which Elvis replied "I don't." And to show my age, the first thing I ever saw on our first color TV set was Meat Loaf on the show (not really new wave or anything, just thought I'd throw that in). |

| The one I remember had a "celebrity" panel talking about the new "punk" phenomenon. If I remember correctly it had Kim Fowley, Paul Weller, and maybe Joan Jett. It was real early on - I think the first Jam album had just come out. Paul Weller just looked at the floor and didn't say much. The Johnny Rotten episode was great too. It was with PIL, and they really made Tom mad, giving real short answers to his dumb questions and blatantly rolling their eyes. It was surreal because Tom was/is such a huge buffoon/ square guy trying to be hip in a real clueless way. That one is floating around on video and is worth seeking out. |

Does bring back great memories. Thanks! I always thought they should put together a video comp of all the early punk/new wave appearances on that show. It was a riot seeing Tom trying to relate to those acts. Did Ackroyd have him nailed or what?
Some great Saturday Night Live appearances too. Remember the Elvis Costello appearance in '77? They started playing a slow song and, all of a sudden, Elvis cuts it short and they jump into a ripping version of Radio Radio. "Radio, Radio... 1-2-3-4" |

| I recall the interview and performance of the Plasmatics. Wendy O. Williams destroyed a car with a sledgehammer. I don't really recall a whole lot of that episode other than it definitely left some sort of impression on me. Also, I remember an episode where Tom interviewed Chales Manson in prison and Manson nearly attacked Snyder....good stuff. |

| In a better world Tom Snyder would be in prison and Charles Manson would have his own tv show. |

I remember the Tom Snyder show very well.
I first saw U2 perform on it. They played "I Will Follow" and as a budding guitarist, I was facinated by the cool way The Edge played the main riff to that song.
Dave, you said it... Dan Aykroyd nailed the impression of Tom Snyder... lol, it cracks me up just thinking about it.
