According to http://www.pauseandplay.com/upcoming.htm site the new Kate Bush compilation is on the way. Entitled "Revisiting The Whole Story [CD/DVD]", it will be a standard 22 track collection, whereas its special limited-edition will also include a DVD with 35 videos on. Release date is November. Label EMI. The first single taken off it will be "Running Up That Hill 2012". About time, if it will include all the original videos, and not their revisited i.e. reworked versions.

As excited as I am about this, I'm terrified about the DVD. Though some may not understand what I mean, here goes.
All of Kate's pre-Hounds videos were shot on videotape instead of film, giving them a very distinctive look. Some recent DVD collections have been processing some of these to remove the videotape look, resulting in them looking like cheap film. The Adam Ant DVD was heartbreaking, and some may have read my recent comments regarding the new Gary Numan DVD.
Hopefully, EMI will not do this. When I got the Duran Duran debut album CD+DVD set, I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw Planet Earth and all of the Top Of The Pops performances had the videotape look. Call me petty but for me that look is essential for enjoyable viewing. I will be holding my breath until November for Kate... |

| She has re-recorded Running Up That Hill as a video installment featuring Jude Law for use in the Oplympics 2012. It's so far unfounded that there will be any form of tie-in release at all. |

| No, it hasn;t been used yet but I'm thinking closing ceremony? Danny Boyle is involved in some way, hence the rumour... but when it comes to Bush, who knows? |

Nope. Not a single news on it yet. Unfortunately. If only it could be released next month but you know the rest already. All that label/Kate Bush stuff...etc etc.

Rule of thumb for remastering or not, Does it make it better? Now, if you we're going to take this original analog source and put it out on analog media, then yeah, don't change. But if you are going to put it onto a digital media, then you probably need to make some changes if they look better (Obviously the intended final source was never meant to be digital since it wasn't even around). Because often analog noise when digitized will create macro blocking, and this is not good. So I for one, find it better if the remastered DVD eliminates the grain/noise. It's definitely a preference issue. I find it looks much better on a digital television.
I thought the Adam Ant DVD video collection was very good. Especially since they used PCM sound. Seems that again there is a lack of consideration for the sound on these new released video collections, which is in my mind even more important than the picture quality. But I'll take both. |
