Who do you like better and why? I gotta go with Howard Jones. I like his vocal tones much better. Dolby is the more accomplished musician, but I loke Jones' songs better.

Motors, that is AMAZING: as soon as I'd heard "I Love You Goodbye" Thomas Dolby may as well have never written another song. It is classic. |

Who? Woodlandparkpunk and Woodlandparkpunk? I'm not sure.
But my vote's Dolby. Jones was often too downtempo and musically just not as interesting as some of Dolby's more unique offerings, ie. not Blinded Me With Sciene. |

Wow, thanks Motors. The summer heat has really fried my brains. I totally forgot that I made this post. How did you find this so quick?
Man, it's Friday and I gotta get to the pool. |

It just sounded really familiar so I searched "jones dolby" and there it was. I did laugh when I saw it was the same guy that posted it . I thought you were trying to trap people or something. |

"I Love You Goodbye" is my second favorite Thomas Dolby song. "Airwaves" is now and will most likely always be my favorite.

Ha! That was my first reaction too. However I admit I like hojo quite a bit, and if I hear "the" song by dolby ever again I think I will simply scream. |

Since I wasn't around for the original poll...
I also would have to go with Dolby. Both are extremely talented musicians, but Dolby has the edge with his songwriting (personal favs "One of Our Submarines" or "The Flat Earth"). He can also write a pretty funny song, too (Airhead, anyone), and the knock-out punch is that he (at least used to be) next door neighbors with Eddie Van Halen....
I do like Ho-Jo (I'm suprised Howard Johnson's never sued about that)--but if I had to dump his stuff or Dolby's from my collection, I wouldn't think twice. |

I'll go with Thomas Dolby only because Europa was an incredible song and he has that Lene Lovich connection.
Howard Jones always seemed like such a sensitive little sweater boy. |

Thomas Dolby by a wide, wide, wide margin.
He had some truly stellar tracks: One of Our Submarines, in particular. Dissidents, The Flat Earth, Flying North... just to name a few.
Howard Jones was, in my opinion, fairly bland in comparison. Thomas Dolby was much edgier and far more interesting.
Just my 2 cents :) |

| Thomas Dolby. Even though I've heard more from Howard Jones, that is one NW artist I detest! |

| The Golden Age Of Wireless is a classic album. Dolby's use of electronics moved way beyond the simple(although catchy) synth work of Howard Jones. Dolby was a much more artistic song writer and his work evolved (not always to my liking) but he continued to experiment, where Howard seemed to fall into the commercialization trap. |

| Dolby all the way. His best stuff - She Blinded Me, Submarines, Europa, Airwaves, Windpower, hell, the whole Golden Age album, is way better than anything HoJo ever did. In fact it's way better than anything almost anyone ever did. I think of Howard Jones as pleasant, mildly new-wavish pop which is not a bad thing, but not as good as Dolby's best. |

| I like them both, but I like Dolby much better. Also I don't own any Jones records... I have a bunch of Dolby, so I guess that's the answer! |

Tough call.
Thomas Dolby is more new wave...while Hojo is more synth pop.
I'd have to say Hojo, simply because I listen to him more. |

| You are correct Frayo - Dolby is more New Wave and HOJO is more synthpop. Dolby also came along a couple of years before HoJo. Dolby's EP's came out in '81 or '82 and before that played with Bruce Wooley and the Camera Club. If I remember correctly, he also played keyboards on Foreigner - 4 . I would consider Dolby a New Wave pioneer as well as a musical genius. While I like HoJo, I really view him as more of a pop artist with the Human's Lib Lp being his best work. What is Love? IMO is his best tune. |
