WAY WAY back in '87 or so, Natalie Merchant said she was pulling "Peace Train" from future pressings of "In My Tribe" because of Cat Stevens' protestations against Rushdie and his "Santanic Verses" book.
Did this ever materialize?

If I remember correctly her and the other members of 10,000 TRIED to get Peace Train removed from In My Tribe, but Epic Records wouldn't do it. My vinyl and CD copies both have the song

"Peace Train" was indeed pulled from some pressings of the CD of _In My Tribe_. Initial copies of the CD included "Peace Train"; once the song was removed, these early copies commanded a hefty price on the second-hand market.
The band seems to have made their peace with the song, tho...10000 Maniacs' recent compilation included it. Have they, perhaps, re-included it on _In My Tribe_?
IMHO: the album is far, far stronger without "Peace Train"--it sort of sticks out as the "radio song." |

That would be Elektra Records. |
