Does anybody recall this show? It was a sitcom that lasted all of 1 season I think & was about trying to fit in at a trendy high school. Sarah jessica parker & Jami Gertz were both in the cast. I know Devo & the Waitresses made appearances as well. I managed to tape all but two of the episodes during its run on TV Land a few years back, but I'd love to get the whole series on DVD. I checked amazon & they say its due to be released on Sept 12, 1969! WTF???? Does anyone know if a DVD actually exists?

Don't know of a DVD release, but they used to rerun it on TvLand. And that's how I caught all the episodes. It was fun to see a glance in the radio station room since there were NUMEROUS posters strewn about of some obscure & well-known artists. They even played 2 Josie Cotton songs(Pictures of dad & some other one), showing the DJ holding her album. Thus, it gets my instant approval. That and it is a very darn 80s show, complete with grainy film quality.

Johnny's little new-wave song he did at the supermarket should have been released as a 45, so I could have a clean copy.

That was my favorite show, I would wait every week to see it and I'd drool over the radio room, I havent seen it since the 80's but I remember seeing the cover of Fun boy three, It aint what you do.. on the wall, seeing Devo was an event of a lifetime!!!!

One day i'll see it again!!! Funny thing I would get excitied over a show and wait ever week for it and it had Sarah Jessica Parker on it and in the future I did the same thing over Sex and the City....(same age as characters on the show and same dating situations)

Recall it? I recorded every episode. The show aired Mondays at 8:00 on CBS... which is, ironically, where "Still Standing" aired last year.

Sony owns the home video rights, and me and others have been trying to get the gears in motion for that. They know there's interest. They just don't seem to getting on it. You guys can always help by going over to tvshowsondvd.com and voting. The studios do seem to take notice of the shows with lots of votes.

Of course, it's Sony, so when it inevitably does come to DVD, it will likely have no extras, lame artwork, poor transfers, and a bunch of edited episodes. Never mind the music substitutions...

Tracy Nelson (Ricky's daughter) was on Pegs too. I loved it & couldn't wait for it every week.

Always check with the seller first on whether or not these DVD's are burned from his VHS tapes or are legitimate DVD's from the studio.

That being then case then, why on Earth would anyone buy a dvd of a show taped off network television? Do they enjoy looking at a station "bug" graphic in the lower right hand corner of the screen, information "crawls" at the bottom of the screen or those G'damn pop-up reminders for upcoming shows still three days away???

What was Jamie's name on that show? Muffy? Oh my!

Apparently so. Mind you, when I was taping the show back in '83, TV didn't have those things. Although I did blow 10 bucks on a bootleg CBS airing of the Devo episode, which I somehow missed during the original run and only had taped from a cut-to-ribbons airing off USA.

Even USA only had the bug on the screen for a few seconds here and there. Man, what's become of television?

I do remember Square Pegs. I was in college when that show was on but my younger sisiter was still in high school --and looked just like Sarah Jessica Parker looked back then. Her classmates used to tell her all thetime how much she looked like the girl on Square Pegs. I'll have to dig up a photo of her & post it.

Unfortunately for my sis, she doesn't look like Sarah nowadays,

That's correct. Merritt Buttrick was also known for playing Captain Kirk's son in Star Trek 2 , the Wrath of Khan. Sadly, he died from Aids in 1989.

That's true but TV Land does do all that and was airing Square Pegs episodes just about a year ago. I'm assuming that's where the DVD's were recorded from. Caveat Emptor.

Not that you could pay me to watch something on TV Land, let alone me pay you for a recording off of it, but with all the music used in the show, there's no telling what form it will hit DVD. All it takes is one song copyright holder to want too much money -- or say no outright -- and, whoomp, replacement music.

When that happens, a bootleg -- even in cut-up, bug-infested, snipe-laden, credits-mashed form -- is sometimes the only place to hear the original songs.

Except for maybe "WKRP in Cincinnati," which hasn't aired on TV with a lot of its original music since 1982.

Awww, thats bringing back memories. I had forgotten about about this quote....too funny. Johnny Slash was my favorite. It was sad to hear he passed away. I stil see Jami Gertz, and Traci Nelson, and recently saw Amy Linker on one of those VH1 shows. I'd love to know what some of the other actors are doing, like the guy that Marshall, and LaDonna(she was too cool). I loved the 80's!! Good times, I tell ya!!

I would like to see this show released on DVD as well. Considering some of the TV shows that do have their seasons out on DVD, it's surprising to me that this one is overlooked. When "Freaks and Geeks" was released to DVD, it had a hefty price tag for such a set, because of the music rights involved; but rather than substitute music or leave some songs out, the producers of the discs thought the audience would rather pay to leave everything intact. If "Square Pegs" does get a proper release, I would hope its producers keep the same thought in mind.

It's finally coming to DVD on May 20! TVshowsonDVD.com is reporting on it and has some preliminary artwork. No word yet on if the episodes are cut up or what is up with the music on it.

I saw a few episodes on TV Land a couple of years ago. Despite all the cultural touchstones, I don't think the show aged well at all. (Or maybe it didn't age well because of the touchstones.) And the laugh track was hideous. Maybe I'll rent it on NetFlex, but I can't imagine it being essential viewing.

Ollie, and nobody called you Johnny Slash because of this show?!

Just took a look at the DVD artwork. Yeah, that's not lame or anything. Like, totally.

Most of the people who would have called me Johnny Slash didn't watch Square Pegs. It wasn't a hugely popular show.

The theme song STILL goes through my head regularly. And I would sooo buy this on DVD, I don't care about the price.

Speaking of never minding the music substitutions, if you plunk down money on this, you really better not mind the music substitutions. Because there's, like totally, a lot of them.

Luckily, I haven't noticed any trims, and the episodes definitely aren't taken from syndicated masters. Transfers are nice. It looks better than I remember it looking on CBS.

Loved this show and have it in my Netflix queue. Looking forward to re-living some old times. I still remember watching the Devo playing at Buffy's b-day party episode. Iirc- she originally was supposed to have Van Halen play the gig, but there was some kind of issue with David Lee Roth (could the show's writers have seen the future. So Devo got the call and played "That's good"

Great stuff. Can't wait to see those old episodes again after 25 years.
