Icicle Works

Inquiries and discussions about new wave artists and what happened to them.

Hey, my vinyl rip is “lame” but in the original meaning of the word! My equipment and technical skills are both lacking! Sorry.

No need to be sorry. I was just surprised about the quality. LAME doesn't cause that kind of problems using JS. Sounds more like a lower bitrate Fraunhofer encoded Joint Stereo problem. It's not your equipment, that's for sure (okay, unless it was from cassette).

Man, that Vertigo Sampler ... can't say enough good things about that compilation. And all for the price of a twelve inch single. Paid off for them, as I've picked up more than a few albums from groups I've discovered from it.

I really wonder what the story is behind the different version of Book of Reason, because I assume the Vertigo Sampler version came first (seeing as the insert says from the upcoming album) and I prefer this version.

obs, agreed, the Vertigo Sampler was freakin' amazing. It introduced me to some stuff I otherwise would never have heard in my one-horse (one radio station) town. I have never really taken the time to think about it, but it seems to me most (if not all) of the tracks are not "unusual" versions. I was surprised to hear from you that Book of Reason is not the album version. All the more reason for me to grab a copy of Small Price.

Here's the album version:
http://www.uploading.com/files/2X7ZNSZT ... n.mp3.html

I picked up the album just for Book of Reason (to recreate sides 2+4 of Vertigo Sampler) ... I'm not much of an Icicle Works fan (although I do have Best of, LOL).

I think the VS version has more variety to it, but maybe it's just because I heard that version first.

obs, all I can say is [:D][:D][:D]

I agree the Vertigo sampler version is better, but always great to hear a different take on a song!
