New favourite bands

Postby Mechi » Mon May 29, 2006 12:02 am

There's been a lot going on during the last years with the boom of the Next Wave scene... so it would be interesting to make a list of those new (or realtively new) bands that have become favourites.
Here's my list:
Franz Ferdinand
Interpol
Yeah yeah yeahs
The Strokes (though their gig in Arg wasn't very good)
The Bravery
She wants revenge
Kaiser Chiefs
Bloc Party
Arcade Fire
The Hives
The white stripes

Well... that's all I can think of now. [;)]

Many great ones have already been mentioned. So I'll just add:

Clor
Film School
Zoot Woman
Secret Machines
Serena-Maneesh
Elkland
The Static Age
Editors
Art Brut
The Prids
I Love You But I've chosen Darkness
The Thermals
Lansing-Dreiden
M83

And A big Hell, yeah on the Steve Wynn cd that tileboy mentioned. It was a real return to form for him.

Mostly start-ups from the internet with no label backing. Most of them aren't really favourites, but music I enjoy listening to. Some of the stand-outs are:

Droom (New New Romantic band from Canada)
Viceroy (local/San Diego Emo UCSD band)
Atomic Punks (local/San Diego Van Halen cover band)

If you can count bands from the late 90s and early 2000s as "new", then I can add moar:

- Rialto (can't believe they're from the late 90s...)
- Kid 606
- Mogwai (they're almost a decade old!)
- Matematics
- The Faint
- Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions (sans Roback[V] )
- Aqualung (although it got very - VERY - overplayed once he made it to the States last year)
- Sigur Rós (played to death at the university[xx(] )

Yes!
I'd also add Hot Chip and British Sea Power to my list.
Also Aqueduct.
Sigur Ros makes me fall asleep unintentionally... but the quality of their sound is great. [;)]

I wouldn't call any of these Next Wave but in the last few years I've enjoyed

Adult
Ladytron
Solvent
Magas
The Sounds
Bakteriele Infektion
Artist Unknown

for the most part I really cant get into the Franz Ferdinand/Strokes/Interpol thing at all. I'd rather listen to the bands that influenced them.

I like Zero 7 quite a lot -- kind of Trip-Hop, but I like Trip-Hop as well.
