I've been listening to my new set of remasters from the firse three albums. I forgot how consistent each of these albums was.

Best non-single cut: Friends Of Mine from their eponymous debut album. I hope they can work this one back into their live sets!

"Shackled and raised for a shining crowd,
They want you to speak but the music is louder than -
All of their roar, with the heat of the planet's core, but..

The shadows are on your side,
As soon as the lights go down.
In the darkest place you can find,
You belong to the hands of the night..

Promises made with a distant friend
Truth should be known it can only bend -
To a tune of its own, hey you'll never hear that voice again.
Scandal in white on a tangled vine
With everybody to say that you're having the time of your life -
When your life is on the slide, but.."

huh? planets core? what? come again? LOL

DD song for today, What Happens Tomorrow. im currently bit under the weather but this song lifts me up[:)][:)]!!!

Faster than light was a always instant classic hit with me. I could not figture out why duran duran decided to release this song as a B-side. Its this best song from the 1981 era from them.

Thanks for your support, TM![:)] much appreciated

siouxmoux, DD b-sides circa 1981 to me aren't b-sides at all, yes they are as good as the album so i consider them as EP of their debut. & what's this geeklinks.net? can u tell me more about it?

DD song for today, The Wild Boys. always love those chunky drums!!

I agree. This DVD is great. The set and performance are at the same level as when I saw them at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

For me it's: Hold Back The Rain (Remix) [12" remix] (7:05)!

Remixed by David Kershenbaum, this remix of 'Hold Back The Rain' appeared as the B-side of the UK 'Save A Prayer' 12" single (as per this site: http://www.ionpool.net/duran/ that was posted in another thread. Thanx to whomever it was...)

I didn't know there were that many versions of the Rio album, or the songs themselves...

Of note: saw DD open for Romeo Void at the Roxy in Los Angeles in 1981, when they were touring for Planet Earth LP.

In second place is: "Faster Than Light." A great New Romantic tune if there is to be a "great" NewRo song. Which they performed well at the Roxy that night... as there popularity grew I had to see the Rio tour at The Greek Theatre, and then they like really exploded after that tour was almost over. [:0] NOT!

I have to say that I had given up on them for years and had neither bought nor listened to anything after Arena. On a whim, I picked up a used copy of Greatest Hits and was completely blown away by both Electric Barbarella and Ordinary World. These two songs far surpass anything they did in their mid-eighties prime.

As much as I love Planet Earth (and wore down the grooves of my import 7"), it's a pretty mediocre peice of music.
