Your Top 10 (The) Jam Songs!

Postby glokstadt » Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:14 am

OK, now that the NWO is on a "Jam" roll (no pun intended)!
List your ten (10) most favorite songs by The Jam.

01. Strange Town
02. Man In The Corner Shop
03. In The City
04. The Modern World
05. Billy Hunt
06. Liza Radley
07. Going Underground
08. Start!
09. Ghosts
10. Town Called Malice (and/or) Precious (I know I said 10! [:)])

This is very tough to do! I could go on, redo, add, change songs, this is just off the top of my head without looking at LPs, or my mp3 colection (remids me: The Butterfly Collector is great too!).

Oh Christ this is brutal. [V] And they have such a great catalog for a band not around all that long. I'm sure this changes constantly...

1 Man in the Corner Shop
2 That's Entertainment
3 The Bitterest Pill
4 English Rose
5 In the City
6 Away from the Numbers
7 The Modern World
8 Liza Radley
9 Strange Town
10 Start!

There's few things sweeter than that "Nah nah nah nah naaaah" chorus of Corner Shop.

I know Blir... I could list the entire catalog as well... almost all great for six studio LPs released!

I love "A" Bomb in Wardour Street (B-side to Starnge Town), Life From A Window, Here Comes The Weekend, Carnaby Street (B-side to All Around The World), and Little Boy Soilders! [:D]

Correction: "A" Bomb is the b-side to "David Watts" - ooppssie!

Man, looking at some of our selections, one thing really stands out. Weller really knew how to lay down a signature guitar riff at the start of nearly every single song. They all screamed "The Jam", but at the same time they were very distinct from eachother and unique from anything else you heard. Just sample the starts of, ahem, Start!, Corner Shop, Strange Town, Town Called Malice, In the City, and on and on. It's pretty freaking amazing! Giants man, GIANTS!

Giants Man! Right on! Hey Blir, have you listened to The Chords ever? Talk about power chords and riffs, and... man more hard core than The Jam, even more political and biting lyrically than The Jam. Whew, makes for some big energy releases that need to happen; especially when I was younger... [:0] [B)] [8D]

WXB102 introduced me to THE JAM.[8D] It's hard to choose just 10 songs but here's my list by rank:

1)START! (My #1 favorite, I like the similarity of the beat from THE BEATLES classic song "TAXMAN")
2)THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
3)GOING UNDERGROUND
4)THE BUTTERFLY COLLECTOR
5)BEAT SURRENDER
6)AWAY FROM THE NUMBERS
7)TOWN CALLED MALICE
8)BACK IN MY ARMS AGAIN
9)BRICKS AND MORTAR
10)WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG

Your brush with coolness (Paul) [8D], and it's OK to be heavey on a great album like Sound Affects because I can listen to that entire album/CD without skipping any tracks!
