Big Takeover 30th Anniv. Fest 7/30-31 - Brooklyn

Postby shred » Thu Jun 10, 2010 11:57 pm

Attention New Yorkers and beyond! This is going to be a great weekend of music! I'm very excited about many of the bands especially Mark Burgess of the Chameleons, For Against (first NY show in 15 years!) and the Libertines (from Ohio, not the tarts from the UK). Also, Jon Auer of the Posies and Big Star and Sleepover Disaster from Fresno. Plus, Jack Rabid's band Springhouse on both nights!

@ The Bell House in Brooklyn.
Buy tickets here for either day or a two day pass.

It certainly is! What other zines do three page spreads on For Against and The Magnetic Fields? Put AC Newman on the cover!

A lot of these artists are doing this as a one off, and traveling from very far distances, so it's going to be something special.

I saw Jack's original invite list and it included Sloan and Pains at Being Pure. Rats! Even still, this is going to be so frickin good!

I'm so elated to finally see For Against. I've been in communication with their guitar player, Harry Dingman for the last few years. I even co-interviewed him a while back for [sic] Magazine.

If Martin Phillipps of The Chills showed up, I'd probably die.

I would love to see For Against, I've been a fan for 20 years and have never had the chance.

A lot of you folks would probably dig the U.S. Libertines as well. They're from Cincinatti. They're sort of like Husker Du/Mission of Burma meets Echo & The Bunnymen.

Blir, Mark is also playing at Wierd in NYC on August 4th. Late midnight show on a weeknight. I can't do that one.

While seeing Mark in any form is a real treat, nothing quite compared to seeing the full band during their reformation in 2000 and 2002. Stunning live shows night after night.

I think he's around the east coast for a while around that timeframe, possibly after 8.10 as well. I don't see dates posted anywhere, but I did hear someone mention Boston, Philly, Baltimore, DC etc.
