Unsurprisingly, OMD have cancelled the remainder of their North American tour (three dates).

Andy, on the OMD forum:

"Malcolm is going to be OK.. he had to go to hospital. Martin went with him to keep us posted. But At this moment I have heard that he is doing OK but needs to be checked over.

I cannot say any more at this time.

However, all the remaining USA concerts.. Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago are going to have to be cancelled.

We are sorry but Malcolm is too important and we cannot put his health in further jeopardy..

There will be further updates.

Andy"

Great shame. You hate to see the planning and effort and enthusiasm go to waste. The band was probably sounding better than they did in 2011, too.

Personally, I DID mind. I actually got a bit bored about 2/3s of the way in, hearing so many common songs. Not to take away from their efforts - the sound was great, their voices have held up great, their efforts were tremendous.

Yeah, I hear you. I'd love it if they did a tour in which they only played songs from their first couple of albums, heavy on the ambient experimental stuff. But I was happy just to see them sounding good, even though, like you, I would have preferred a different setlist.

A thankful, heartfelt update from Malcolm Holmes, posted to OMD's Facebook this morning:

A Message from Mal:

I have finally arrived home after I collapsed and my heart stopped due to a Cardiac Arrest at the recent OMD Toronto gig. I owe my life to quick thinking members of our crew & band and the Toronto Fire Dept Paramedics who performed CRP and Defibrillation to bring me back to life.

It has been a deeply traumatic time not only for me but the band, crew, management, family, friends and loved ones. I have been overwhelmed with the kind messages of love and support from so many people. I am deeply touched and cannot thank all of you enough.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have helped with my recovery and getting me back home safely …. Toronto Fire Dept Paramedics, Nurses & Dr's in ICU & CCU at Toronto Eastern General Hospital, Dr Lashevsky and his team at Sunnybrook Hospital Toronto, escort Dr Mike Priestnall, Merv and all the OMD crew, the Band, Remi, Simon our tour manager and our awesome manager Mirelle Davis. Lastly … Sabine (my angel) who has held my hand constantly through the darkest of hours.

It's good to be home. Thank you everyone.
