Great reviews as usual. Glad to hear Parquet Courts are such a good live act. Will put them on my must see list.

Very good reviews. That said, I'd like to see a write-up of Coop's post 4 beer pics. Don't care what the pics are.

Plans are in the works for an '82 appearance next year. Just giving you guys a heads-up. [;)]

The 4 x 22oz beers were just for starters. That was a rough day, and led to a curtailed gig list, which is unusual...music first. Anyway, I don't think you could handle it 82.

Don't go overboard on the booze. The venues are all over downtown, and it's quite crowded at night.

That's ok. I'm sure I'll be all over too. Don't underestimate the power of the Canadian woman.

Plag, The Casket Girls...TRANSVESTITES! AND HEINOUS!! I can't believe you're counting that as a gig. [}:)]

From the better late than never department. Bands with no notes I didn’t feel I really could add anything to the above comments

[b]Best Gigs (A):<b/>

[b]Reverend and The Makers<b/> ( Hickory Street - 1am) My favorite gig of SXSW. A sparse crowd made up of me and a couple of buddies and about 30 other people, many of which were band members from The View, The Enemy and Jake Bugg. Audience members were buying the Reverend shots, the entire place was dancing like idiots, half the audience ended up on stage dancing by the last song in a complete raucous finale. The band members hung out after and were as friendly as can be. The Keyboard player is super hot (she even came up and gave me a hug later in the week before her next gig). Not a huge fan before the gig. The Reverend was friendly, fun and engaging. (See additional review)

<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3077_zps90a82aa6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3077_zps90a82aa6.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3077_zps90a82aa6.jpg"/></a><a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3064_zpsa29709ab.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3064_zpsa29709ab.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3064_zpsa29709ab.jpg"/></a>

[b]Frank Turner<b/> (Blackheart - 1 am) In the backyard of an old house, it was like having a buddy play songs at your weekend cookout. To me, this is what SXSW is all about, someone who sells out Wembley Arena playing in front of 100 people. His whole band was rocking and I was amazed that the audience knew the words to every song. A ton of fun.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3183_zpsac7403b8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3183_zpsac7403b8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3183_zpsac7403b8.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0131_zps5f1cc225.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0131_zps5f1cc225.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0131_zps5f1cc225.jpg"/></a>

[b] Frank Turner<b/> (Cedar Street - 1am) Just kind of stumbled into this gig to close out SXSW, because we were close and it wasn’t too crowded, got to get right up front again. Completely different gig. Frank by himself playing acoustically, packing a big punch, playing a couple of his songs before diving into covers by Springsteen, Dylan (brought an audience member up to play harmonica) and Blink 182 (yup!) and he was just getting warmed up. Admitting he was sick all week and fairly drunk right now, he brought up members of various bands to do sing a longs with including Chris Carrabba from Dashboard Confessional, Matt Pryor of Get Up Kids, Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music, Jenny Owen Youngs and many more, to plow through a wide array of songs that just turned into a wild party. A perfect end to SXSW.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3324_zpsc32d7b78.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3324_zpsc32d7b78.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3324_zpsc32d7b78.jpg"/></a>

[b]Gold-Bears<b/> – (Flat Top Burger Shop) Midday, front row, sitting at a table drinking beer and eating burgers as Gold-Bears blazed through their set, perfection.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0105_zpsda5b0dbe.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0105_zpsda5b0dbe.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0105_zpsda5b0dbe.jpg"/></a>

[b]Gold-Bears<b/> – (Iron Bear) Well crafted songs and another outstanding set, my first time seeing them live and they brought it.

<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2981_zps3a815a77.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2981_zps3a815a77.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2981_zps3a815a77.jpg"/></a>

[b]Gold-Bears<b/> (some parking lot) – Another midday gig as good as the previous two. Humble, gracious guys who know what they are doing.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3193_zps8e8f2f8c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3193_zps8e8f2f8c.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3193_zps8e8f2f8c.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0135_zpsd341f74f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0135_zpsd341f74f.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0135_zpsd341f74f.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0137_zpsc03a2c38.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0137_zpsc03a2c38.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0137_zpsc03a2c38.jpg"/></a>

[b]Parquet Courts<b/> (Red 7 – Outside) These guys are great, frenetic rockers that lived up to my expectations. Fast with lots of feedback.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0115_zpsad5a01ff.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0115_zpsad5a01ff.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0115_zpsad5a01ff.jpg"/></a>

[b]Parquet Courts<b/> (red 7 – inside) Maybe the better of the two gigs as the inside venue felt more intimate, they ripped through their set. I was impressed.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3283_zps168f94b8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3283_zps168f94b8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3283_zps168f94b8.jpg"/></a>

<p>Puppet Concert<b/>(6th Street) You don’t get to see a gig like this too often, guy behind a makeshift bed sheet, record player, and unusual audience.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2930_zps80791569.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2930_zps80791569.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2930_zps80791569.jpg"/></a>

[b]Palma Violets<b/> – (The Mohawk) Huge amount of hype and I was lukewarm about their record but they were fantastic live. These guys may be huge.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3038_zpsca3e8088.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3038_zpsca3e8088.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3038_zpsca3e8088.jpg"/></a>

[b]Palma Violets<b/> (Red 7 – Inside) Another strong show, these guys are definitely a band you want to see live and later in the night the better I am guessing they are.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/ba739680-f316-4370-b403-ec32d05ff1c1_zpsfffea83b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/ba739680-f316-4370-b403-ec32d05ff1c1_zpsfffea83b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo ba739680-f316-4370-b403-ec32d05ff1c1_zpsfffea83b.jpg"/></a>

<Shout Out Louds<b/> (Flamingo Cantina) Was worried they would be too polished like their new record but was happy to hear they weren’t, perfect pop.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0017_zps7e01b438.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0017_zps7e01b438.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0017_zps7e01b438.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2914_zps1e84b46b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2914_zps1e84b46b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2914_zps1e84b46b.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2928_zpsde3985b9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2928_zpsde3985b9.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2928_zpsde3985b9.jpg"/></a>

[b]Shout Out Louds<b/>(Stage on 6th) Feeling the effects of the early drinking binge at their gig earlier in the day didn’t put a damper on things but this gig wasn’t as good as the first. Still, these guys are great in my eyes. This was the start of the pictures I don’t recall taking including two with band members.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0044_zpsb7b69f45.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0044_zpsb7b69f45.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0044_zpsb7b69f45.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2974_zps17d80b6c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2974_zps17d80b6c.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2974_zps17d80b6c.jpg"/></a><a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2973_zps0ffab051.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2973_zps0ffab051.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2973_zps0ffab051.jpg"/></a>

[b]The Joy Formidable<b/> (Viceland) Alternating between old and new songs, terrific live. They just never fail to disappoint.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0065_zpse722266d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0065_zpse722266d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0065_zpse722266d.jpg"/></a>

[b]The Joy Formidable<b/> (Lustre Pearl)- Some minor technical issues and similar strutting/showmanship to the earlier gig made this one a little less engaging as the first show, even a slightly less Joy is better than most bands live.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3171_zpsd8d6321b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3171_zpsd8d6321b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3171_zpsd8d6321b.jpg"/></a>

[b]The Specials<b/>(Hype Hotel) Despite Terry Hall’s dour face and attitude, I was surprised how many Specials songs I know and the crowd was hyped and dancing all over the place. Bonus, this is the closest (and only times) I have ever been to getting in a fight at SXSW (or anywhere else for that matter). Twice. Two different douchebags.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3059_zpsb5f99038.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3059_zpsb5f99038.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3059_zpsb5f99038.jpg"/></a>

[b]Residual Kid<b/> (Valhalla) Mere kids. Well beyond their age. Refreshing to see they are not listening to rap. The Sonic Youth and Nirvana covers were solid. I really liked this. They have some talent.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0002_zpsc79dcab5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0002_zpsc79dcab5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0002_zpsc79dcab5.jpg"/></a>

[b]Comedy Night at Esther’s Follies<b/> An awesome night of excellent comedians on a light musical night the first day.

[b]Solid Shows(A-):<b/>

[b]The Thermals<b/>( Peckerheads) – solely for the venue, cramped and in the back, these guys bring it though.

[b] Paws<b/> (Scoot Inn) I liked these guys more than I thought I would but can see them buying into the corporate BS that will lead them astray. Also, see below. This was actually the band that said “This song is about cancer. Who here likes cancer? If you do then get the fuck out” (See below)
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0074_zps529b6a29.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0074_zps529b6a29.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0074_zps529b6a29.jpg"/></a>
[b]Savages<b/>(the Main) I get it, they are solid live and she can kick my ass. Would see them again.

<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0039_zpsf27ad6f1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0039_zpsf27ad6f1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0039_zpsf27ad6f1.jpg"/></a>

[b]The View<b/> (Stage on 6th – outside). Very enjoyable set, these guys obviously partied balls the night before as they looked like they just rolled out of the van for this afternoon gig and the bass player had to exit stage left midway through the fourth or fifth song to vomit on the side of the stage. Done. Replaced for the rest of the gig by the guitar tech I assume.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3085_zps6b128253.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3085_zps6b128253.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3085_zps6b128253.jpg"/></a>

[b]Mike Scott<b/> (St. David’s Episcopal Church) Holy Hell, don’t think I was supposed to have a beer in church.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2976_zps04839979.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2976_zps04839979.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2976_zps04839979.jpg"/></a>

[b]Parenthetical Girls<b/> (the Jr.) High energy, this guy puts on a show. Wish I would have seen more of them.

[b]Pretty Good (B)<b/>

[b]Wampire<b/>(Hotel Vegas) Would like to see more of these guys and will definitely check them out. Loved the cover of The Model.
[b]Scott Lucas and the Married Men<b/>(Hickory Street)These rockers were pretty decent. Lead singer from Local H I believe. One of my buddies thought they were amazing.

[b]Youngblood Hawke<b/>(Club DeVille) I felt like I had to sneak off and see these guys in secret so no one would make fun of me. They were really good, I would probably rank them higher but afraid someone would make fun of me.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3206_zps7727d460.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3206_zps7727d460.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3206_zps7727d460.jpg"/></a>

[b]Not Bad (C)<b/>

[b]The Zolas<b/>(Maggie Mae’s) Pretty much what I expected from them, really like ‘Strange Girl’ and ‘Observatory’, the rest was pretty straight ahead rock. One of the better lines at the festival – “Could I get more of me and less of him in my monitor please?”

[b]Fine Times<b/> (Maggie Mae’s) Saw these guys while waiting for The Zolas, not bad at all

[b]Reverend and The Makers<b/> (Peckerheads) My pre gig hug was the brightest part of this show. Disappointed The Enemy weren’t playing, and this venue sucks. Daytime crowd, small stage and they frankly just weren’t as good as the first time.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3250_zps135195e6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3250_zps135195e6.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3250_zps135195e6.jpg"/></a>

[b]Pinz<b/> (Texas Rockfest Outside Stage) Punk pop that was ok. Some interesting sights for sure at this one though as it was a huge fenced off parking lot with food stands. The crowd was kind of like being at a swap meet. A swap meet probably has less homeless folks there though.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3269_zps5519f4cd.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3269_zps5519f4cd.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3269_zps5519f4cd.jpg"/></a>

[b]Maserati<b/> (The Main) Pretty good instrumental stuff. I like lyrics.

[b] Jim Lockley & The Solemn Sun<b/> ( Blackheart) Ehh, acoustic guitar rocker, nothing terrible or special but playing in the backyard of a house made it ok.

[b]Vinyl Williams<b/>(Hotel Vegas Outside)

[b]Fort Lean<b/>(Hype Hotel)

[b]Fear Of Men<b/>(Hotel Vegas) Nice dream pop

[b]Boy<b/>(Cedar Street)

[b]Hunters<b/>(Cedar Street)

[b]Beach Fossils<b/>(Hype Hotel)

[b]The Last Royals[b](Bourbon Girl) Was hoping for more. They definitely weren’t bad but even the song I like by them wasn’t as good live.

[b]Joywave<b/> (Bourbon Girl) Think I have seen these guys in years past, decent. Highlight was right after this set, waiting for The Last Royals when a group of middle aged, normal looking black women sit down by me waiting for their friends to come join them, obviously not there for the music but like tourists stopping into one of the less crowded venues for a drink. “You mind if we sit in these seats?” “Nope” “you here all by yourself?” Yep, here to see this next band”. “you better be careful some fine looking black lady don’t come in here scoop you up” nervous laugh. Get up and stand in front of stage while band setting up.

[b]Twin Falls<b/> (Cedar Street) Chris Carrabba from Dashboard Confessional’s band. Good enough. Frank Turner started the minute these guys did their last song. Brilliant.

[b]Metz<b/>(The Main) One of the Must See bands from Rolling Stone or Spin or somewhere. There must be a million punk bands that are as good with better songs. Parquet Courts and Gold-Bears blew these guys away.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3017_zpse884fa82.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3017_zpse884fa82.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3017_zpse884fa82.jpg"/></a>

[b]Nubes en mi Casa[b] (Esther’s Follies) While waiting for SDuburban Living, caught most of this set. The band picture on the SXSW website showed like 9 members. Apparently only three could make the trip from Argentina. No idea what the hell this gal was saying between songs but pretty damn good dreamy guitar songs.

[b]IO Echo<b/> (Red 7 – inside) The first of many of the Arm Wavers, these were the best of the lot but definitely not my cup of tea.

[b]Los Lonely Boys<b/> (El Sol y La Luna) Wanted to see Camper Van Beethoven, no line, starts in 5 minutes, awesome. “Did You RSVP?” “yup” “I don’t see you on the list””Thought I did (knew I hadn’t)” Ok step over here and RSVP on your smart phone. OK done, can I go in now? “Yes but you have to go walk back through the corral fencing””But there is nobody in line? Can’t I just walk in the door? “No, everyone has to go through the line” “But there IS no line” Unbelievable. Anyway, Los Lonely Boys had just started, about an hour behind schedule. They are the really Lonely Boys as apparently one of the members died and they had someone filling in for him. They mentioned this before each and every song. Depressing. “Why am I here?” No CVB.

[b]Big Black Delta<b/>(Flamingo Cantina)

[b]DIIV<b/> (Lustre Pearl) Not bad, elicited little emotion from the crowd except from a couple middle aged dudes.

[b]Papa<b/>(The Mohawk – indoor) Drummer is the lead singer, these guys were actually entertaining straight ahead rock that had a small following from LA there for them

[b]Nah (D)<b/>

[b]Limousines<b/> Most disappointing gig of the week. Really liked them last time they were at SXSW. All new songs and definitely reaching for a wider audience, just less interesting and nothing memorable. Boo.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3274_zpsf111e9fa.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3274_zpsf111e9fa.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3274_zpsf111e9fa.jpg"/></a>

[b]Paws<b/> (The Jr.) Really? This is the same band we saw at Scoot Inn? No, seriously? Oh yup, he has his Thrasher Death Match t-shirt on and his brand spanking new Converse that they had given him earlier in the day at the Thrasher/Converse sponsored gigs. What’s going on? Sounded absolutely nothing like the first gig. My buddy and I were just looking at each other debating if it was really the same band. Weird.

[b]A Silent Film<b/> (Antone’s) One of my disappointments, was expecting more, these guys think they are rock stars. Maybe they are. Fairly large crowd but it may have been just because it was Antone’s.

[b]Icona Pop<b/>(Viceland) One of the girls in front of me got a kiss on the cheek from one of the two singers in this female Swedish synthpop duo. She squealed that she was never going to wash her face as she hugged her partner. They had a huge female crowd there to see them.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/DSCN0055_zps8d222817.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/DSCN0055_zps8d222817.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN0055_zps8d222817.jpg"/></a>

[b]Suburban Living<b/> Nice enough kids who like twee indie pop.Pass.

[b]Diana<b/>(Flamingo Cantina)

[b]Caveman<b/>(The Main)

[b]Moon King<b/>(The Jr.)

[b]Trails And Ways<b/>(Hype Hotel)

[b]City and Colour<b/> Notice the u? The packed crowd couldn’t have looked more bored. Bonus: Guy taking pictures in a full bear suit on a very hot day trying to check his cell phone he was holding in his paw and looking through the mouth of the bear head. Finally, he takes the head off and the dude has a full head of red hair and a full beard. He looked basically the same with or without the bear head on.

[b]Inter Arma<b/> (Red 7 Outdoor) Where am I? Their profile states they combine Death Metal and Doom/Sludge. Whoah! Let me check this out. Sure, I’m not the biggest Death Metal Doom/Sludge fan at the festival but who doesn’t like a little Death Metal Doom/Sludge once in awhile. I was pretty much waiting for someone to be murdered on stage at this gig. 4 minutes into the first song, lead singer would prefer to be in an arm waver band but had not started singing yet. Looked around at the crowd and decided I may be the one they were going to murder. Figured I should leave.

[b](F)uck Off<b/>

<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_3289_zpsa4e01a39.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_3289_zpsa4e01a39.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_3289_zpsa4e01a39.jpg"/></a>
This was my term of the week courtesy of our roommate from the UK. These bands/venues were especially sucky.

[b]Venues – Viceland, Fader Fort, 1100 Warehouse and Hype Hotel<b/>This is what’s wrong with SXSW. Although the Cool Ranch Doritos Tacos and free drinks were cool at Hype and the free 20 oz beers at Viceland was cool, come on. If I got in line at Fader Fort last year I might be getting in about now.

[b]Merchandise<b/> (Viceland) Wow, these guys are bad. Who said they wanted to see them?

[b]Merchandise<b/> (Red 7- Indoor) “We’re tired of playing all of our new crap. We are going to play some of our old crap” 100% true quote from the lead singer. Who put these bastards on before Parquet Courts. Why have I seen this band twice? God Hates Me. Probably because of the drinking beer in church.

[b]Ivan And Alyosha<b/> (Hype Hotel) What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here

[b]HAERTS<b/> (Red 7 Outdoor) Yes, I can spell. Should have known the misspelling of the name and the all caps I was doomed.

[b]ALPINE<b/> (Red 7 Outdoor) See above. Have I lost the will to live?

[b]The Staves <b/>(Peckerheads) I do not like many bands with female singers. I am usually not a fan of acoustic music or crappy pop songs. Peckerheads is one of my least favorite venues. Much to my surprise, The Staves are not a power pop punk band. They are three sisters who sing with glorious harmonies while playing acoustic guitars. Kill me now.

[b]Austra<b/> (Viceland) Fuck Off.

<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2906_zpsa9be14a3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2906_zpsa9be14a3.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2906_zpsa9be14a3.jpg"/></a>

Apparently there was a 12 beer minimum each day and I gave Kobayashi a run for his money at the Best Wurst stand.
<a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/pjsaturno/media/IMG_2907_zps4750221d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/pjsaturno/IMG_2907_zps4750221d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2907_zps4750221d.jpg"/></a>

An amazing time though, meeting up with old friends and making new ones. I know people (including myself) bitch about too much corporate influence (hey, we steal their music, why should they get paid for their work) but for the most part those aren’t the bands I am there to see. The special gigs you get to see in small venues by bands that typically play bigger arenas and the bands that are so nice and thankful to you for coming out to their shows is awesome. Saw over 60 gigs this year.

I was in line with coop, about 30 minutes before the venue opened. They still hadn't opened up as of about 8 minutes after the show was supposed to start, so I bailed. As soon as I got to another show (Two Hours Traffic), I got a text from him saying that the doors were open, and another about 10 minutes later saying the show had started. "Just shoot me," I responded. Glad he didn't.

You see things like the wolfman playing the violin all the time. I just cannot wrap my mind around the corded phone, though.

There were plenty of others. I was one half step behind a couple college girls who were pointing at the middle aged men dancing in place, enjoying the show. Then I started, making sure to accidentally brush my shoulder against one of them every now and then.
