VISION-Who's That Stranger

I am eagerly searching for the 7" single released by Vision, titled "Who's that stranger". I am in the process of putting together a CD collection of all of their releases, and if anyone can help me locate this 7", I will be happy to provide a copy of the finished product in return. This is the last single I need before I start the project. I already have the 12".

THANKS
Scott

Hello Scott,
Is this the same band I am thinking of that did the song "Lucifer's Friend" I am confused because I thought the band that did that song were called U.K. Vision. Are they the same band?

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

Hello Justin,

Yes, this is the same band. They were known in the U.S. with the "UK", most likely because there was another band of the same name on this side of the pond. The band had several lead singers, but always retained the same keyboardist, who was the mastermind. They always had a dark, dancey edge to them. This particular song is excellent mid-80's dark and dancey, Depeche mode-ishness. I think of the original single version of Strangelove.
The band was set to release a full length LP titled "In Sight" in 1983, though it never saw the light of day. Their discography consists of a handful of singles.

Thanks for the cool info!
Good luck on finding that single, I only know "Lucifer's Friend" and would be interested in hearing more.

I guess the Peter Murphy wannabee from "Lucifer's Friend" didn't cut it, huh? [:D]

I am still looking for this record. I managed to find the rare Mobiles single I needed, which is far rarer as it turned out it was only available as a white label test pressing, yet this record still eludes me.

I just got the 1982 7" of "Lucifer's Friend", and what a great record it is, apart from the vocal, which is perhaps not so good!
Scott: Is this version the same as the 1983 release or did they re-record it?

The 1983 version is just a re-release in other countries of the 1982 version. The song was resung by a new vocalist on the B side of their 1984 single "Tears idle tears". I do not like the new version at all, and prefer the original.

Scott, which records are going to be on this? "In Sight?"

I figure it's not as rare as an acetate test pressing, but there seem to be about as many copies around...

It's a scan from the Vision msn group.

http://groups.msn.com/vision-lucifersfriend

The pictures section has all sorts of stuff -- including the Spiral Visions "Dance Macabre" EP. I am quite sure I will never run across that in my lifetime.

If you check out the back of your "Love Dance" singles, the catalogue number for "In Sight" is MVM 006. Why, that's the same catalogue number as on that tape. Guess it was originally going to be self-titled. So it wasn't commercially-released, but radio stations obviously got it.

Geez, I guess I should check this area more often.

No, I do not have the unreleased "In Sight" album, though I'd love to get it. It would be just a collection of their single releases from 82-87. As of this date, I still can't find this lousy single. How frustrating... especially when I did see it for sale about 7 months ago, yet didn't feel the urgency to buy it at that point. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find again. Yes, I'm kicking myself.

UPDATE:
I just checked out the Vision group mentioned earlier in this thread, and there's a message from Andy Beaumont, keybordist of the band, stating the following exciting news:

Finally!!!!!!!!

The record company who had all the original master tapes of the original recordings has finally agreed to release them to be remixed (althgough I haven't seen them yet!!)

There are about 40 songs with the original line up

Russell Bonnell Vocals
Andy Beaumont Keyboards
Pete Jackson Bass Synth
Chip Drums
Dave Gilbert Guitar.

I will be in the studios in the next couple of months to revive the memories and to try and do something with them.

40 songs?? That is sweet news. And me, I have, what, two 12" and a 7". Wooo.

I hope the price you missed out on on the 7" was better than this fine example of highway robbery...
