Why Do We Have Remixes?

Postby Sean » Tue Jan 04, 2005 4:58 am

I am in a inquisitive mood today. :) I think this question was brought up before but I couldn't find the thread so I'm going to start it again. Why do we have remixes? You see, I kind of understand the need for extended versions so DJ's can do mixing but why do we need remixes. Don't get me wrong, I love remixes but I don't see the point in them. I mean, isn't the original song already good enough? Take for example Depeche Mode. I've seen like 20 versions of everyone of the hit songs. Is that really necessary? What's really bad are remixes that don't sound at all like the original songs? What's the point? Shouldn't that be a new song anyways? There was a time in the 90's that I remember where I would buy a cd single and listen to all the remixes and wonder what in the heck these remixers were thinking when they did the remix. Some of the remixes sounded like the remixers must have hated the original song so much that they didn't even use it at all. I don't know, it's just strange to me.

I started the prior thread on this topic, and I must say I agree with you. I have passed on the 2 newest Kraftwerk singles because all that was on the b-sides were remixes by (supposedly) well-respected producers. I want to hear Kraftwerk, not someone c

There are good remixes and bad remixes. I usually steer clear of them unless someone turns me on to a really good one. When I was in High School i heard a remix of a Berlin song, I think it was "Sex, I'm aÉ", and that kind of set the tone for my feelings

Rubbeet, you've never ever heard a remix that you semi liked? How about reMAKES, I hate remakes, although that tribute CD, "I want to be a Carpenter" was pretty cool. Have you heard that one.

I like remixes to hear how other DJ's or music artists interpret a song, but very few are better than the original single, IMHO.
Good for extended dancing though...[:p]

I dont get em. Never did. Dont really like em all that much.

just give me a single and its extension and were cool.

But the remix thing always gets me all curious and the remix is always so freaking obscure, theres a greater chance of my eyes sprou

I have a friend who was kind enough to inform me when she saw a CD of ALPHAVILLE - Forever Pop. I asked her what songs were featured and I was overjoyed when she read the tracks one by one and I told her to buy it for me immediately. Unfortunately, when I

99% of "remixes" of 80s hits are pure bile. Hey, let's make the vocalist studder! Let's extend the instrumental before the lyrics kick in! Let's add a totally different drumbeat!

Why mess with perfection? The only good remix I heard was "remix b" of Al
