RIP - NYC radio legend Scott Muni

Postby ebbhead » Wed Sep 29, 2004 2:38 am

Passed away last night after complications from a recent stroke.

Granted, he did nothing for new wave, but the guy was a huge influence on getting the Beatles out there and a presence on NY radio for like 5 decades.

It's the end of a radio era. Or, not to talk ill of the dead, but maybe the final death knell for classic rock? *fingers crossed*

Back to the point, RIP.

That's really sad. New York has lost the Walter Cronkite of rock music. I remember all those years on WNEW (well, not ALL of them, just a lot of them, I'm not old enough). I don't think anyone will be able to carry his torch.

I have to admit that growing up in NJ, WNEW and Scott Muni were an important part of my life. He and WNEW introduced me to a lot of music. I remember hearing The Cars, Cheap Trick, The Police and even Van Halen, Meatloaf and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"

Radio is so blah these days it is a loss to lose someone with so many years and influence in radio. A sad day for the state of radio.

As seemingly irrelevant as Mr. Muni may appear to our contemporary listenership demographic, he is most certainly deserving of acknowledgement by NWO and other music genre fans.
The man was PASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGABLE about the music of his time (and lat

I remember on Friday afternoons on WNEW, Scott Muni would have a segment on his show called "Things From England", where he would play the newest releases from overseas, similar to WLIR's "Off the Boat". On one of these programs, Scottso the Professor an
