Hey Mike P - How 'bout some forum Avatars!?

I don't think avatars are a necessity. I am quite happy with the 'Personal Page' if I wanna look at some dopey picture (mine included) that someone wishes to be identified with. I am on a few other message boards and some people really abuse the avatar privelege by merely posting and reposting stupid pictures in lieu of actual discussion.

I can do without the avatars, ESPECIALLY the animated ones. I think they're distracting and when abused can be highly annoying.

I totally get what you're saying. I have seen the occasional gross/cutesy/obnoxious/oversized avatar.

But on the [b]music[/b] sites I've visit regularly, it has either been:

- a nice pic of a band that the user likes
- a simple self-portrait photo
- a logo or icon representing their own band

I vote YES for this board. I think the posters here will not go cutesy, fuggly, obscene etc. It will probably be either personal pics (self-portrait, their kid, maybe a pet) OR music-related. Anywhere else, NO. But for alternative music boards like this one, YES.

Im counting on someone do put something stupid there..and make a really huge picture...however I kept coutning on someone to have a picture signature too...but that hasnt happened.

When I was on the DayGlo Radio site, we had user avatars not only in the forums but also in the chat room history pages. Members did really creative and funny stuff with animated gifs. They also had a spot on the home page where they listed celebrity b'days then several people would make that celebrity's photo their avatar for the day. No one abused the function and it was a lot of fun to see what the others posted.

I vote for avatars, I think the NWO people are just as, if not more creative than the DayGlo peeps. Let's try it out & see what happens.
