Wow.
System Shock
Dark Forces.
In 1993...when Doom was released... A small company called Looking Glass released the coolest game of all time.
System Shock.
A 3-d first person RPG...that was HARD AS HELL.
A beautiful beautiful game. I spent days and days on that game...when completing it only took 17-21 hours.
I knew all the stories...and every last character log by heart. I knew every single wall and texture... No really I literally knew every last bit of architecture of the game...because I built a site for it with my crude lack of knowledge...and didnt know how to take a screenshot of the map display while in dos...so I did them all from memory and scanned them.
I knew every single character and corpse and everything. I had dreams about the game.
I used to dream of levels...
and for a long time I had the demo...and the demo as HARD AS CRAP (not as hard as the game though). I played it a zillion times. I remember my first time playing the demo so very well. I remember it better than far more important firsts, which is kinda funny.
It had no sound...it wouldnt work with my soundcard...but then I learned more on how sound cards worked and made it work anyway.
It was so cool.
So wonderfully freaking awesome. I miss that game. I still have it in my CD spindle with all my other old skool games.
I played the sequel..which wasnt as good.
The beta was as good as the first....but when it went to release...the new version was nowhere near as cool.
I had all but forgotten about the game (been about 4 years since I played it).
Dark Forces...
I played this one a million times because at its peak there were new levels and addons coming out for it every day.
In fact...they still come out every 2 months or so. Its a game with horribly bad graphics by todays standards that I fell in love with. It was so freaking cool.
System Shock 1 and Dark Forces have the coolest video game soundtracks....which are responcible for a lot of my synth playing.
SS1 was bootlegged to CD which I have
.
DF was bootlegged to CD which was impossible to find..and I could never find the copy.
But anyway.. I played DF more than I played SS1.
It was sweet.
