It appears that it may be true, she had been sick for a while and had been keeping it quiet according to a few articles coming out of different news outlets.

But I have not seen anything on the local Boston news yet. She was originally from Dorchester.

Edit ......... now being reported locally, but very few details. As the day goes on, the reports will most likely become more comprehensive as they go through the archives and put together a full story with images & sound clips.

Jeezus. Love or hate disco, she was a tremendous singer. Had some very good times in roller-discos as a kid listening to her hits.

RIP

USA today is reporting it.

Weird thing is, I thought about her yesterday. For some reason she popped into my head. I was thinking that she transcended the Disco era and had lots of success after that, way more career longevity than most but I hadn't heard anything about her lately.

Weird !! indeed ..... same exact thing for me too, yesterday I was forwarding some information about a mix that is more or less nicknamed the "I Feel Love Mix" to someone on discogs.

Last night I must have listened to that song 20-30 times to try and identify all the different samples that were added to the main song.

Indeed. For better or for worse one of the first records I ever bought was Bad Girls-- I was about 5-- and I still have it. More recently I can appreciate the excellence of 'I Feel Love'. RIP Donna.

Just threw on Bad Girls and listened to it all the way through in I don't know how long... I recommend all NWOers listen to 'Our Love', particularly the chorus break, and tell me what song it reminds you of...

I have to guess you are referring to the style of rhythm break in The "Human League's" - Don't You Want Me (Baby)

Sample:

Just some minor pitch corrections and they are virtually identical, both clips directly on top of each other. (Not the proper way to do it, for demonstration only)

from today's NY Times, Style section - remembering Donna Summer

"Deborah Harry, lead singer of Blondie “There’s a live recording somewhere of us doing ‘I Feel Love.’ We played it all over the place. I know we did at CBGB at first and then various shows all over the world. I was crazy about that song. You couldn’t help but love it. It was so fresh.â€￾ "
