Nostalgia Night

Postby Silvina Hernandez » Sat Aug 24, 2013 6:31 am

Uruguay is the only country in the world that has a day devoted to old music (pop & rock songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s). It's celebrated every 24 August, when you can choose from an enourmous variety of nightclubs that play music from these decades the whole night, with most of these being quite expensive. You can even have dinner in some of these places, but this option is obviously even more expensive. This is the night of the year when most people go dancing here in Uruguay. However, some pèople prefer to stay at home instead, invinting friends to come over and listening to the radio or their own old records.
From early in the morning and until the next morning, most radio stations play this kind of music to set the mood.
This is one of the few days of the year when I listen to the radio, because it's the only time when they play the music I like the whole day. I never go out this day, so I stay at home and listen to the radio until late at night.
Today, when I woke up, the first thing I did was turning the radio on. Then I went for a walk while listening to it and they played Situation by Yazoo, for instance. They also played songs by The Police and Depeche Mode, among many others.
Then, when I went to the supermarket and all the personnel were wearing 70s styled clothes and there were "vinil" records made of cardboard.
Now, as I'm writing, I'm litening to the special coverage of the party made by Oceano FM (whose owner was the creator of the first Nostalgia Night party in 1978, which was held in the place where is now located the radio satation), the radio station that "sells" and broadcast the "official" party, which starts at 1 in the morning and ends at 8 in the morning.
I was expecting this night to come the whole year, and I really enjoy it, especiallly whenever an 80s song is played.
