New Wave music--its importance today?

Postby savethewave » Mon Feb 14, 2005 1:55 am

Recently I noticed a good New Wave site, The New Wave Outpost and I was wondering if New Wave music was an influence on New Wave.

I wonder, if, in this time of acoustic guitars, derivative hip-hop drivel, and rehashing old styles--

I wonder if the genius inherent in the work of Duran Duran and Alphaville is still important. That is, if it is still able to be appreciated.

I'm listening to "Hot Fuss" by The Killers right now. For all the hype about them being the New New Wave I just don't hear it. It's contemporary pop music. These guys are too young to really be influenced by 80's New Wave. I hear more Pixies than Soft

I don't think new wave will catch on. I see a big future for heavy metal bands.

This is just so funny, savethewave! [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] You should be posting this on those classical music sites too! Hahaaa! (of course, you'll have to mention the word classical music somewhere in your post to stress out some tiny relevance) [:p

I'm sill having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that Interpol is succesful because, at some point in the past, they decided, "Hey, let's sound like Joy Division! That'll make us *loads* of cash!"

New wave is alive and kickin...well, at least our band is trying to keep it going. I know others in the local scene here in So Cal that are doing the same.
