DualDisc Format

I thought I would start a new topic, now that I dived into these shark infested waters.[:D] I searched the forum and did not see this topic anywhere, so here goes.

I was curious if anyone has purchased any music in the new DualDisc format. I have some reservations about it, especially with warnings printed on the covers. This is regarding the possibility that the audio side may not play in certain players, because it does not meet the Redbook specifications. This makes me think of the warnings on the copy-protected discs, which I avoid. I also saw an article about there being problems using these discs on Pioneer products, which can be reviewed here:

My CD player is a JVC and at least 5 years old. My DVD player is fairly new and from Sony. So, it may not matter for me.

I am also concerned about the fact that the disc requires more care than a standard CD in that both sides must be kept clean; although, this was true of vinyl. What about car systems?

It appears that more CDs are being released this way. Just by looking at the the extra content, the labels are not offering too much. I'd rather have an extra DVD.

Is the DualDisc the future for pre-recorded physical media or will it fade away? Any thoughts?

Good topic. DualDisc is a novel invention, but I cannot stand dual-sided media ... keeping them clean is a full-time job. I with you when I say that I'd rather have the double slim-case with a bonus DVD. Personally, I think DualDisc is going to flop.

Yeah Shades I'm not a big fan either. Stick with what works until technology comes with something groundbreaking. I dont think its the futur, i've read about a lot of other stuff in the works that would make it null and or void. [:D] Actually since i got

IMHO DualDisc is being forced down the consumers throats. Some titles are being offered in both formats (a regular CD & a DVD is added as a second disc) but many retailers are not carrying them if they even know the alternative exists. There is no way to

Perfect timing. I was considering buying a dual-disc CD today "BAck in Black" and decided against it. They did not put a full "DVD-Audio" quality recording on the DVD side. The enhanced DVD-Audio side was 48KHz sampled while a standard CD is 44.1 KHZ samp

Klaus, you've got a good point about record companies. Here's how it's done in England:

1. See CD-Wow, an on-line retailer based in Hong Kong selling chart CDs for £2-3 cheaper than in the shops in the UK.

2. Rather than lower their price which woul

I've seen this new format but frnkly have'nt seen anything that I want. Besides, I have my reservations buying a disc that I can't return if it does'nt work on any of my CD players. Anyway, is this new format what is sometimes referred to as the red laser
