I think I found José Gonzalez through http://www.rockinsider.com/ -- love that site. I heard Juana Molina on NPR's "All Songs Considered" a few months ago -- love them both.

I also have a strong appreciation towards very different kinds of music from different parts of the world (although sometimes my balance may seem inclinated to one side).
That is the main reason for liking this site... together with the fact that there are people here that also like music a lot.

Latvian group Brainstorm, that was mentioned earlier in the other thread, has a new album out.It is called "For Shores" and there is a wonderful single "Thunder without Rain".

Head Automatica - Popaganda
Margot & The Nuclear So & So's - The Dust Of Retreat
Radio 4 - Enemies Like These
A Kiss Could Be Deadly - The Pink Noise Sessions EP

Morrissey - Ringleader Of The Tormentors
Placebo - Meds
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Elan Vital
Rock Kills Kid - Are You Nervous?
The Concretes - In Colour

The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia
The Essex Green - The Cannibal Sea
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You
The Vines - Vision Valley
White Rose Movement - Kick
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

Like I said - there will be more, and if the new Killers song is any indication, their new album will make my list as well... Rock!

I bought the self-titled CD by the French group Prototypes about a month ago, and I've been playing it quite frequently. I don't know much about Europop, so it might be standard stuff, but there are some new wave influences in there.

Here's a sample. It's my 2nd or 3rd favorite on the CD.

For me, it's Alejandro Escovedo - The Boxing Mirror
Produced by John Cale, Escovedo said this:
"I've spent my whole career ripping off John Cale and now I get to make an album with him. That's something, isn't it?"

Allen, Lily - Alright, Still (try "Smile" and "LDN")
be your own PET - s/t (try "Adventure")
Hot Chip - The Warning (try "Colours" and "Over and Over")
Kasabian - Empire (try "Empire")
The Knife - Silent Shout (try "We Share Our Mother's Health")
Man Man - Six Demon Bag (try "Feathers")
The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love (try "Whoo! Alright-Yeah...Uh Huh" AKA "W.A.Y.U.H.")

If you only try one song from this list of albums, get The Rapture's. Their album isn't out until this Tuesday (I believe), but it shouldn't be too hard to find a copy of the song. It's catchy, funky as hell...a great song that needs more exposure!

Their last album was last year but I just want to give a shout out for The Lovemakers:

Placebo's Meds album is surely one of my favs of this years.
I've realised that I like molko and company way much more than I imagined at first. They are kind of one of my fav bands nowadays.
