Top 10 next wave bands

Postby deevo0 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:22 am

I'm ready to bust out of the 80s and start listening to next wave. I could use a jump start. For any next wave fans who feel like helping, could you list your top 10 essential bands of the next wave (however you define the genre), and an essential album or single for each?

Thanks!

p.s. I love what I've heard of The Mary Onettes.

Too much to choose from. Check the Next Wave Video of the Day thread.

Personal favourites this year (so far)?

The Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know
Rangleklods - Beekeeper
White Rabbits - Milk Famous

Yeah, I know there is a ton, which is why I was hoping for a quick start. People make top 10 lists all the time. I'll check out the ones you mentioned.

I'll give it a quick crack and provide something of zero shock value:

British Sea Power
The Joy Formidable
Goldfrapp
My Favorite/The Secret History
Shout Out Louds
Deerhunter
M83
The Phantom Band
Metric
The Horrors
The Mary Onettes
Brakes

Some are already waning, but some of the new favs haven't quite got enough material to see if they're for real.

Ditto on:

Metric- Help Im Alive (The Twelves Remix)

and The Horrors- Sea Within a Sea.

Also:

Slowdance, Future Islands, Ladyhawke, Santigold, Dum Dum Girls, Two Door Cinema Club, The Lost Patrol, The Black Angels, The Faint, The Raveonettes, Twin Shadow, Cold War Kids, A Place To Bury Strangers.

I think there are threads here on all these bands and most are offering free downloads.

Then there's the usual suspects:

Bloc Party, Interpol, Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Neon Trees, Muse, Ladytron, The Sounds.

+1 kind of like 1987 Cure with the swirling keyboards and jangly guitar

BTW - she takes the subway ( L line) (Bedford Avenue) from Williamsburg to Morgan Avenue (Bushwick), Brooklyn, i.e. hipster central

Sugoi !!!
