Is there anything more ethereal...

...than Goldfrapp's Felt Mountain?! i know this really isn't next wave, but it seems to fit in here better than anywhere else. "Pilots" just came on this morning and continues to blow me away almost 5 years after it's release. Alison Goldfrapp's lyrics are like a vision of a pseudo-utopian future seen through the eyes of a post-war futurist ala an old Wim Wenders or Volker Schlorndorf movie or something (yes, I'm a name-dropping terd [8D]). Take Pilots' lyrics for example:

Armoured cars sail the sky
They're pink at dawn
If I lived [odd pause] forever you [odder but fantastic pause] just wouldn't be
so beautiful
as the sun
when it shines
all over the world.

We're pilots watching the stars
The world pre-occupied
We're pilots watching the stars
Who do we think we are?
[then amazing instrumental interlude with James Bond-like flugel horn!]

Ice and clouds
shimmer outside [then a moan...a freakin crazy sexy moan for godsakes!]
Rain just falls
at magic hour
It's just the sound
of you and me
time twitching
Murmurs of our
friendly machine
[chorus]

Jeez this stuff is otherworldy! It only gets better on "Utopia" where her post-modern visions are even more pronounced, not just by the title but with the crazy chorus...

Fascist baby,
Utopia, utopia

Of course, lots of ethereal lyrics here too...

It's a strange day
No colors or shapes
No sound in my head
I forget who I am
when I'm with you
There's no reason
There's no sense
I'm not supposed to feel
I forget who I am
I forget...

She's so sexy, even the crazy nonsensical stuff just makes me grin and stare with my hands cupping my chin..

My dog needs new ears
Make his eyes see forever
Make him live like me
Again and again

I'm wired to the world
That's how I know everything
I'm superbrain [freakin LOL!]
That's how they made me

Is anybody else grokking Goldfrapp on this sorta wavelength?! [:p]

A fantastic album, I recommend "Felt Mountain" by Goldfrapp for those who want to know what a forest sounds like, for those who want to seek a new personal state of being and who are able to understand it, not necesarily professional stuff here, but it's

A fellow admirer! Cool.

But I tend to differ on why. You emphasize "understanding", but I don't it's about understanding so much as "feeling". Music's often more about emotion rather than intellect right? I think if you like this kinda stuff at all, yo

Good word to describe Goldfrapp.

I get that feeling with "Utopia". Close your eyes and let yourself experience the feeling. Maybe that's what they mean by when you shroom and can hear colors and see sound and stuff like that.

There is one simple reason I don't like Goldfrapp's "Felt Mountain". When I was building my CD collection for the group "Felt" and I would do EBAY searches on keyword "FELT" and "Felt Mountain" would litter the results. I latter learned how to filter ou
