Next Wave on TV?

Discussions about the new generations of bands influenced by '80s New Wave and Postpunk

Next Wave on TV?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Sat Sep 10, 2005 9:23 am

I just saw the cool new Pontiac commerial - the one with all the black cars shooting fireworks out the back. It makes great use of M83's "Don't Save Us From the Flames" - kewl.

I also remember this year's Master's golf tournament using "Untitled" to pretty good effect in one of those special interest pieces.

Anyone else recall any Next Wave on TV?

Oops, that would Interpol's "Untitled".

Check out MTV2's Subterranean. It airs late Sunday night and showcases many cool indie bands, several of which are Next Wave. Rock!

I saw a Sears commercial last night for the fall "lineup" with some music that could fit into the "next wave" category, and that I would like to hear again. Dunno who/what it was.

I have seen that same exact channel. I forgot about that song and had to redownload it.

I could have sworn I heard Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out in a commercial recently, but can't remember for the life of me. Maybe one of those hip jeans commercials or iPod/iTunes commercial ?!?!

Update:
Ok, finally got the energy to use that Google thingy. Take Me Out is featured in one of Sony's PSP (Play Station Portable) commercials

Hmm...considering the lyrics, I can't shake the feeling that the ad agency's being coy using that.

I wanted to walk through the empty streets
And feel something constant under my feet,
But all the news reports recommended that I stay indoors
Because the air outside will make
Our cells divide at an alarming rate
Until our shells simply cannot hold
All our insides in,
And that's when we'll explode
(And it won't be a pretty sight)

And we'll become silhouettes when our bodies finally go

Yeah! Now I wanna buy a car!
