Gwen Stefani = evil!!

Discussions about the new generations of bands influenced by '80s New Wave and Postpunk

Gwen Stefani = evil!!

Postby Borneojimy » Tue Oct 04, 2005 12:51 am

Why, oh why I ask is Gwen Stefani considered to be new wave? She & her band may be new wave fans, but I'd consider her to be more on level with Madonna than Deborah Harry, Patti Donahue, or even Terri Nunn. Good god, that song she did with Eve a few years back was awful. Not to mention "Hollaback Girl". And "Rich Girl" is just one of those songs that makes me angry when I hear it, I just want to smash the radio. Gwen is definately an attractive woman & may have dabbled with new wave in the past, but I think she's certainly crossed the line into the land of commercial corporate rock bullshit, never to return.

Rich Girl and Hollaback girl are 2 songs that are more hip hop on that album. Some of it sounds like it has a 80s vibe. But yah, those 2 songs are annoying.

Got over it!
She's a lot better than Poop Donkey or Dick Floppy, or whatever he's calling himself this week.

Twenty years from now people are gonna be looking back at her song hollaback girl and before you know, it's gonna be #1 on VH1's worst song countdown part 2. Rich girl, hollabck girl. WTF is that crap!! It reminds me of that awful don't want no short short man song that came out in the mid 90's. Anyone remember that? I can't believe this crap is coming from the same person who fronted No Doubt. Tragic Kingdom was a great album. Her solo stuff represents everything wrong with music in the past few years. When I hear those two songs I just wanna tell her to shut the fuck up!!

If there is anyone that would inspire violence against women, it would be Gwen. Why can't she just stop breathing? Someone should punch her in the throat and do us all a favour.

Gwen's first couple of albums with No Doubt were decent, but she just plain sucks these days.

I agree 100% with 45s. And please don't mention Ms. Stephani along with Debbie Harry and Terri Nunn. Both extremely talented artists who have stood the test of time and are still sounding and looking great. I just can't image Gwen Stafani twnety years from now being worth a damn.

Oh, I agree, I wouldn't put here anywhere near Debbie Harry or Terri Nunn, my original post was questioning who in their right mind would consider what she's doing now to be new wave in any shape or form.

It never was. It was this Ska-inspired tripe she croaked in the first few albums which was all the rage at the time they were cut. If it hasn't passed by now, it should pass soon enough.

Yeah, that so called "ska revival" was pretty damned annoying. I love the early 80s two tone stuff, but that's an entirely different matter. Kinda like how bullshit like Sum 41 & Jimmy Eat World get referred to as punk.
