Editors - "Fingers in the Factories"

Postby pretzelbag » Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:30 am

Scenestars (http://scenestars.net/2005/06/editors-blood.php) first got me hooked on the song "Fingers in the Factories" by Editors, and it was on my workout playlist for a solid month due to its tempo and chorus. Scenestars felt that it's reminiscent of Echo, Joy Division, etc., and I tend to agree (having only heard a few songs).

"Blood" is also a good tune, and available in an acoustic version on their site http://www.editorsofficial.co.uk/

You have probably heard "Munich" if you're reading this -- it's the first released single.

Pretzelbag! How did I miss this thread? Finally bought the Editors import. First, ouch, these imports are killing me, especially when fucktards are throwing around loose accusations about us not spending money on good new material! [:(!] But I'm not bitter...much. [8D]

BUT ANYWAY, good stuff!!! It's quite a mix of Echo and Interpol. I don't see too much JD in them but still very good. Kind of a grower of an album. Definately some Echo ala The Puppet. Interpol in the vocals. Instrumentation somewhat like The Stills, especially like "Changes Are No Good". Agreed on your track selections plus "Fall". Lemme know if you're interested in hearing "Dust in the Sunlight" and "You are Fading" from the CDS of "Bullets".

Yeh - Munich, Blood, Bullets and Changes Are No Good were my picks. (Meaning the album passes the Three Song Rule, where buying the album is a better value than buying just its singles...)

Editors is top. Munich is a wonderful song. The cicada remix is amazing. Other new amazing groups in the same line from last year include She wants revenge, Apartment, Rifles.
You can hear all of them in our free internet radio at koolrockradio.com

I was at the EDITORS concert at Cinespace a few weeks ago and I can see that they are going to be huge! Incredible energy, they sound exactly like on the cd. The singer also behaves rather oddly on stage with his guitar, he swings it over his head and almost seems to go into convulsions, it's freaky & yet so cool! Without a doubt, the best 5 bucks I ever spent to see such an amazing band from the UK!

Does nobody think they are like a mixture of Franz Ferdinand and Interpol?? I got that vibe... but maybe I'm just crazy.

When I first heard "Munich" and "All Sparks" for some reason Echo & the B-Men came to mind immediately...but I really think all these comparisons do a disservice to the bands in question (like Interpol v. Joy Division and so forth). These guys rock and I can't wait for the "Back Room" domestic release...

I've mentioned it previously.. these bands may have a JD influence but they are not like JD. I don't understand why every time that a band comes out, critics try to establish a NW connection. I don't know if it's not benefitable for the bands, but I know that comparison it's a pretty easy way of describing bands... and also a very damn boring one!!!

Pssss..... listening to the radio today, a musical critic put on the album and start commenting on it. What did he say: they are like the new Joy Division.
I'm getting tired of this jd- comparison fashion!!!

Mercedes,

I agree with your comment about all the Joy Division comparisons. If I had a dollar for every new band that was "the new Joy Division"...well, I could buy a CD or two from a band that was supposed to be "the new Joy Division".

I highly doubt that even the venerable New Order, which was a kind of "new Joy Division", was ever referred to as such!

Whether the Editors are "the new ___________" to me is irrelevant -- I really like their songs. I missed the Cicada remix of Munich but will grab it off the hub some day.

I know that Editors are good and also enjoy the Cicada mix of Munich very much... but I've analyzed Joy Division so well during the last two years, that it makes me angry that such a deep and unique band is used as a parametre to compare every band that comes out.

i gotta give a big thumbs up to editors. i picked it up yesterday after hearing Munich for the past couple of months on XM. i am liking this a ton.

a great dual listening experience is editors followed by she wants revenge. it is a thing of beauty.

Ah.... yeap... Editors and then She Wants Revenge... I like that combo.
However, I still prefer Interpol followed up by Joy Division. But that was obvious..., [:)]

Hey Everyone

For those of you who enjoy watching the Editors perform, and who are in the Bay Area, check them out on August 7th in San Francisco. The show should be great. Also, for those of you who are feeling a bit lucky, go to http://music.yahoo.com/TargetRedRoom to put yourself in the running to win VIP passes to hang out with the band after they perform. Much Luv, and Good Luck!
