Postby Dave » Thu Oct 06, 2005 3:35 am

So have any "next wave" bands covered any NW songs?

Tons, off the top of my head: Towa Tei-My Sharona (the Knack cover), I-SATELLITE-Life in Tokyo (Japan cover)

Erasure-Everybody's gotta learn sometime (Korgi's cover), Gary Numan-She's got the looks (Prince Cover) Chicks on speed-Wordy rappinghood (Tom tom club cover)
these are only a few and then you have complete tribute cd's as well.
Open the flood gates.

Does The Arcade Fire's "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)" count if it has David Byrne on vocals? ;o)

the Epoxies do a pretty cool cover of "Join The Professionals". Also, check out the Fuses doing "Me, I Disconnect From You".

Not Nextwave but Blink 182 just released a cover of "Another Girl Another Planet". They previously did a good cover of "Dancing With Myself" as well.

Not all of these are technically next wave but definatley within in the last 5-10 years:

The Futureheads - Hounds of Love (Kate Bush)
Stars - This Charming Man (Smiths)
Aurora - Ordinary World (Duran Duran)
Radiohead - Decades (Joy Division)
Moby - Souvenir (OMD)

Man I'd like to hear QOTSA's version of Never Say Never.

Polysics also do a version of My Sharona. It's a killer.

This thread makes me think of the NW bands of the first gen who did covers of 60s hits...YMO's "Day Tripper", DEVO's "Satisfaction", etc.

...Also, the Flaming Lips did a nice medley of Echo and the Bunnymen's "All That Jazz" & "Happy Death Men" on their first single for Warner Bros.

The Lips also used to do mindbending covers of AFOS' "Space Age Love Song" and "Under Pressure" by Queen & Bowie live, but I don't think they ever recorded them in the studio.
