Why are these bands called Next Wave?

Discussions about the new generations of bands influenced by '80s New Wave and Postpunk

I don´t think British Sea Power is a next wave band... hell no!!! They are brit pop. Mmmmm... FF could be considered a next wave group, they have influences of Talking heads and a retro look. The killers... I'm not sure, their hit songs are not very new- wavish (I've invented an adjective) but some songs in Hot Fuss have a new-wave style.[:D]

PD: VHS or Beta is definetely a next wave band

BTW: Did'nt we all just invent the term "Next Wave" anyway? I've never ever heard or read about it anywhere else and I read all the rock mags.

Actually, I first heard the term "Next Wave" back in 2002 when reading an Amazon.com review of My Favorite's "Love At Absolute Zero". Of course, it might well have been a NWO'er who wrote the article...
